LT1 Swap in YJ questions??...

Hey guys, been searching around and can't find reliable info....I found a 1995 5.7l LT1 with 108K miles from a camaro...Guy wants $1200..Thats with the harness and the computer( and what ever else I need from the donor to make it run)...I have heard and seen this engine run ,so I know it doesnt have any mechanical issues...I want to mate it to a 700R4 and I have a 32 spline f/r dana 300..The vehicle is a 95 YJ 44/60 with the 2.5L...I would like any info you guys have on this, the good, the bad, and the ugly...
Some questions I already have...

1. Is $1200 reasonable for the entire engine "package"?
2. How hard is it to convert it to OBD1 (or should I not worry about that)?
---I dont know jack about engine conversions, so I figured the OBD1 stuff would be easier to hook/wire up myself---
3. Should I bother with this motor, or continue looking into the "5.3L" direction?

Thanks!

Well, to me. That is kinda high for an LT1with that many miles. I put one in a buggy about 3 years ago. I got everything at a salvage yard with 60K on the odometer for $1200 and that includes taxes. For the $1200 you can get a 5.3. For $8-900 the LT1 would be a decent deal. I just found a 6.0 complete for $1295+shipping with about 120K on it.

Courtney HAD an lt1 for sale a while back but is sold now. Had I believe 70k on it and wanted 500-600 bucks.

I love my LT1 runs great and has gobbs of power. The factory EFI is unmatched. Going to a 5.3 would also be more modern though and run just as good.

I wouldn't waste my money on a LT1. For that price you could buy a 5.3 or 6.0.

trust me... keep away from the lt-1, it may be a kinda stout roller 350, but its the bstrd child of chevy motors. go with the newer motors. my dd has a STOUT lt1 in it... drives me insane...

just wondering what's the bads of the LT1. I got one and seems to run pretty much flawless? Seems like there's a lot of negative here.

How simple do you want the install? The older version TBI motors are very easy to wire up. I would imagine the 5.3 and 6.0 would be a bit more complex. I like simple

I was looking for a swap donor and got a 94 Yukon for $600. I'm just worried about what I have to wire up since it's not the older TBI system. This one will require a little more research for me. I had 2 choices, keep the engine, mount it to my TH350 and buy a new harness and computer, or keep the entire Yukon drivetrain and do a SYE on the tcase. I found a deal on the SYE, so went that route. Hope I don't regret it

For the swap, I like my Novak engine mount kit. Also, the rad I used was an alum Chevy rad from Speedway Motors.

I got the Small Chevy rad, it was just called a "small" chevy rad then, now they list them by measurement

Howell Fuel Injection. Buy their harness and computer (send in yours as a core). The computer is souped up and the harness is plug and play all for about $800. My friend in Pampa did it to two rigs and Howell has their crap together!

pacific fab in cali has a great engine/harness package. The best way to do it is find the cheapest lsx motor here and for around 800 they will reburn your computer and knockout all the bs and completely build you a harness from scratch and send you a dbw pedal or cable assembly. super nice guys too. They have the most simplified harness on the market so far. I believe its cut down to 7 plug ins and when you install the motor you have 2 wires to hook up.

I agree on the 6.0 or 5.3. The 6.0 would be the best engine for the price!

I used www.wait4meperformance.com They were super easy to deal with, pull all the crap off of your harness you dont need and reflash the computer for like $300-350 IIRC. I was very satisfied with their work. I know "Dirty Ole Man" used them on his 6.0 with very good results too.
