Mercedes diesel & trans in a Jeep

I am currently looking for stuff to install a mercedes 2.5L diesel engine and transmission in a jeep cherokee. Phase one is to get it on the road as a 2wd, that's relatively easy. Phase 2 is to install a divorced transfer case in it and remodify the drivelines. Is there a kit available to divorce a jeep transfer case since I have one already? If so, where can I find it. If not, what would some options be as far as year, make and model of other trucks with a factory divorced transfer case that I could keep an eye out for? I know ford did it a lot in the 3/4 and 1 tons, but I would guess they were bigger and heavier than what I would need for a 54 hp engine.

hmm

How about getting a driveshaft shop to custom fab you a short driveshaft with a yoke on the end to fit the splines of the input of the jeep transfer case and you could fab a "cover plate: to bolt over the adapter opening and have a machine shop bore a hole in the plate for a seal the would fit that spline adapter. Probably would not cost as much as a bought unit. Just a thought. I really like your diesel engine idea, should be very nice for the trail.

That was gunna be my last resort. I was hoping someone made a kit with mounting brackets and everything. I need to do it right since it is likely to be taken on long highway trips and I don't want a loosely fitting piece of outta-square floppy junk, but I also don't want it overbuilt. Squareness is an issue since the mercedes transmission has a flange and rubber flex disk rather than a yoke. I have seen that people are using double transfer cases a lot, but I guess they are marrying them rather than mounting them seperately. I can get an old Ford divorced case but aren't the pretty big?

another idea

Then again, since I already have no use for the jeep transmission, I could use the end of the oputput shaft and just cut off the end of the transmission and mount it to the case. This would also provide some mounting possibilities as well as bearings and keepers and such.

The Samurai had a divorced t-case. they are light and have gobs of gearing options allt he way to 8 to 1's right now i think. the only down fall i can see would be the rear output if offset to the pass side.

A 205 is 1.96:1. Dodge also made a divorced 205, Ford and IH had some divorced np203 in the mid 70's. I have never personally seen one(divorced 203), I found them with a google search.

Automatic transmissions are gay.
