motor, auto, manual, xfer
thinking a 350tbi, th350, 465, 205, rockwells, 44's
only problem i see is mating the th350 to the sm465, and it would be long...but for a rig with a 124-132" wheelbase i think it would work i am a cheap a $$ the gear reduction would be the cheapest you can get. just another tranny (sm-465 = 150-250$), and the shaft coupler (approx 100$) opinions:

So the SM465 is just another gear box? I've never seen or heard of anyone doing this, sounds pretty cool though. How would you mate the SM465 to the TH350?

tracy (yellow landcruzer) built one for lenny (brown toyota)
4.3L,700r4,sm420,205 tracy used a clutch hub, imput gear and welded them together for the coupler... mating the cases is relatively easy but the 2 together shaving as much off each shaft as possible, make a plate for both then just a piece of tube (6-8" dia) welded to the plates spaces the tranny's... the only thing i didnt like about tracy's was the weaker 420, and the coupler... what i need is a 4-3" long coupler broached on one side for a output shaft of a th350, and the other side broached for ainput of the sm465.... i e-mailed lenco yesterday and their response was "we dont make such an animal"...

If you do this I would definitely like to see pics and see the rig in action.

Also, how does shifting it work? can you shift the sm465 on the fly?

no the 465 must be shifted with the motor killed.... the auto works normally... the 465 works like a gear splitter, the 205 works normally

I am sure you could shift the 465 with the tranny in Nuetral.

might have to kill it to get in in granny but the other gears should go, heck you can shift all the other gears without the clutch but it might be fun trying to match RPMs with the reduction of the auto.
