Need Advice on Eng Swap
Well i have an oportunity to get a 4x4 1995 ford explorer dirty dirty dirty cheap and was wondering if any one had done a complete drivetrain swapt in to a YJ. My 4 banger is done and needs a donor. Can the jeep transfer case work cuz i would hate to redo my shafts again (have slip yoke eliminator). Thanx for your help!

Never seen that particular swap, but can't see why it wouldn't work. I'd leave the T-case alone. Shafts are a few bucks, but if you're taking on a swap of this magnitude, you gotta expect spending some money.

Might be easier to just swap the engine and get a bellhousing to mate up to your tranny in the jeep.

Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's worth it. I'd find something tried and true.

Re: Need Advice on Eng Swap
Ford 4.0 would be pretty nice in a jeep, its a good engine.

I know a guy that has done it. He used a ford trans and an adapter for his tcase. he was doing it on a Scrambler. When they got the engine in they found out it needed the timing chain done. he said the one bad thing about the engine is it needs to be pulled out to do that. i know little about the engine and tried to find his post but could not locate it. he stated that he would have not go this route except the engine was so cheap. I remember him saying that a 5.0 would have been a better a choice even if it cost him a little more.

Yj's is TBI style and Tj's is more of a multi point injection. Yes im desprate to get my Jeep running with the least hassle. Thanx!

thanx for the offer but dont have that much to spend right now. Afriend has a good TJ engine that would let go for 200 bones. If i can switch fuel systems in order to not mess with computer and such, would be great. Any one?

So you want to carbeurate a 4.0? Sounds like your making things harder by trying to do things cheap.

I think he maybe asking if the fuel pump from his 2.5 will work on the 4.0? I'm not sure on the fuel pressure of a 2.5 but I think it would be the same? MAybe not?? but it wouldn't be hard to change the pump if that what you are asking?

You will need to mess with the computer. They are two totally different systems. The pump however may be the same pressure. Guess we need to know exactly what your talking about?
