Angry ORD hd engine crossmember

i was just wondering if any one else was running one on a bbc here? i just got mine in tonight and there is no way in hell this thing is gonna fit, i get it up there and the oilpan hits the crossmember and i still have about 1" to go till i can even get a bolt started. now im thinking "hoping" there was a mix up and i got shipped a sbc crossmember because i really hate to not use one of theres they look awesome.

Did you just get the crossmember or did you get the motor mounts too?

DIY4X is getting ready to release a crossmember kit for 2nd gen K5s (and 72-87 trucks) that will be specific to engines....BBC, SBC, LSx, etc... Like everything else Kert does, it looks stout. LINK

You may have seen my thread with the installation of this engine cross member and pan hard bar. This thing is total beef. I can say that it fits like a glove and if your frame is a lil tweaked, this will straighten it out too. This cross member really strengthens the front end...

Each one is made custom to your rig. You can get it with or without the pan hard bar.

are you sure that it's not the oil pan your using? I see in your sig that your running a tall deck motor and if your the truck pan instead of the passenger pan that came in the pickups, that mite be the problem.

He has the patten on it and he takes orders one by one. He's a family guy and so he doesn't want the hassle of mass production.

Please don't do that. When I ordered my cross over steering from them, I went through the same BS. I won't go into details, however, their business practices have led me to make the decision not to buy anything from them again. I would return it and demand your money back. If you paid by credit card, you can dispute the charges. You should not have to modify something that was sold to fit your vehicle and doesn't. The frame brace under the engine serves a very important purpose and if not braced correctly, you could experience damage to your frame, engine or worse.

Please take my advice.

I wanna see pics.. if you got a chevy truck and putting a BBC in it, why do you have to change anything? I've yanked SBC and dropped in BBC with no problems on several trucks...all diff years.. 70's 80's...

manny ill take your advice i am just really fed up with dealing with them they have horrible customer service, i would much rather just buy something that bolts in.
rastus your right everything drops in no problem at all but my factory crossmember was bent, broke, welded numerous times, take your pic lol. and i wanna get more support up there with this new motor because my poor truck has a rude awakening coming its never seen anything besides beater 350's and a half way built 383.

What did you pay for the ORD unit? I may be able to hook you up with my friend who makes those cross members. You won't need the pan hard bar, just the cross member, so it won't be too expensive. Let me know what you want to do.

well i think i got raped on it but i paid 207 to my door but the next day they went on sale for 169.00 i think so i felt even stupider lol. but hell ya if your buddy can make me just the crossmember that would be awesome, i will probably have to take measurements though for oil pan clearance issues, maybe he can build one with a little extra drop to it. but ya that would be great if he can make me one.

These aftermarket crossmembers are tucked up much closer to the engine than the factory ones, and are designed to give more room for full stuff AND more room for x-over steering. It is almost impossible to put X-over on a 6.2 rig with a Banks turbo system w/o using a different crossmember and modding the turbos crossover pipe.

From what I remember, the 427 big truck pan is deeper than the one ton 454 pan.

yep it sure is i just compared them, the standard bbc pan seems to be around 1/2"-3/4" shallower. i would just drop this pan and put another on but i already have everything fitted to this one so i hate to go back through it. this x-member is all i lack to have this thing drivable again im gettin an itch to drive it i think i might have forgotten what its like to drive a "truck" im stuck in a s10 or crotch rocket for the moment lol
