I thought about gettin one for my truck and found some on craigslist for pretty cheap. I would try to go with a "well-known" brand myself. Maybe edge, superchips... something like that.

EFI Live - Costs a little to get into it, but you can program it yourself or get someone who has built tunes for it already. I have it on the diesel and love it.

Maybe its just me, but if he has to ask what kind of programmer to get he is probably not skillful enough to tune himself. I would say the best handheld for the money would be diablosport predator. It works well on Chevys.

I was 'not skillful' enough when I jumped on a dozer for the first time, but I would like to think I an one of the better operators out there now. There are plenty of 'built tunes' available already, so it's not like he would have to learn how program before he used it. I was just throwin the option out there, and besides, maybe one day someone else will do a search for programmers and come up with this thread and the extra info will do them good.

i think he ended up settling with an edge programmer. what they offered suited him the most and he liked it the best. he has superchips on their mustang but i think he liked the edge better.

A few of my buddies have chevys with the 5.3 and they both got the bullydog programmer that they came out with for gas its shift on the fly 3 stages and I was very impressed with the results one of the guys has 305s on his chevy and we put the programmer on extreme and ran supreme gas and it would roast the tires from a dead stop.
