Propane.....

Tell me about this.... I have decided to keep my Jeep a pure trail rig, already goign full hydro on steering, so I figure instead of the TBI conversion, I will just do a propane conversion. My Jeep has a 304 v8 all stock other than edelbrock intake and full MSD ignition. What kind of power loss/gain can I expect? Do I change timing at all? How long can I expect a tank to last? Impco 425 mixer and model e regulator what I need?? I dont want to buy a $1500 kit that I can round the same stuff up for less than 1/2 that..

I put this list together a while back. If any of the links don't work then let me know and I will fix them. Only thing different between the Toyota motor and a v8 would be the carb(425).

My last v8 propane swap, all I did was run a step hotter plug. Power seemed about the same. Maby even gained a bit down low.

What carb is on it? If its the same air cleaner as a QJet mine will fit no problems.

Re: Propane.....

I have a motorcraft 2100 on it, but its a 4 barrel intake so I can run any carb really. Happen to have 20 or so qjets here in pieces so I can make something work for sure.

That's a dual fuel set-up. IMHO you would be better off with a regular full propane set-up.

Re: Propane.....

Yeah, talked with mike about it. It is a dual fuel, but should work fine. I may be able to build a plate to adapt it to just the carb base itself. The price is right though.

All that is needed is to unbolt the 425 from the intake 90 in the picture and bolt it to a holly base plate and your right where you want to be. A 425 will bolt straight to the holly base plate.

Very easy, don't run duel fuel. A tank will last you a good day on that small v8

Re: Propane.....

Didn't plan to do dual fuel, wanted to try and adapt that setup to just pane, if all I need is a holley base I am set.

I dont know what your talking about as far as hard to tune?

I bolted this set up on top of the carb, set the idel screw, then brought it up to 3000 rpm set the high end and never touched it again.

What problems have you had with one like this?

Not tring to pick a just wana know.

Well I had all kinds of problems with my setup so junked it and went to the solid propane 425 which has been the best thing I did. As for actual tuning I hear you will never get the performance out of dual fuel that you want because you can't tune for both different fuels to run at their best. In my opinion totally defeating the purpose of propane and v-8s.

Hose is ordered, only parts lacking are the tank mount, the tank itself, and the fitting for vaor hose to go into the mixer (unsure of thread size here.)

Re: Propane.....

Cool, that's what I figured, now to find one. Also need to find another place to order the hoses. DO NOT order from PNG Technologies, they are a joke. 15 days and I have no hose, no refund, no return emails, no return calls, and an idiot that says I never made an order (have paypal invoice from it, so dispute is filed.)

I thought when I posted the links in my thread that I used the kickoff that had the filter built in but I guess not. Here is the one that does.

http://www.helmarparts.com/product_p/152.htm

It looks like this is one that will screw into the bottom but doesn't give much of a description.
