propane injection

Ive been wondering What the pros and cons would be to converting my truck to just straight propane injection instead of fuel injection. I have seen a trail rig that was set up that way and was curious. Any suggestions throw em out there.

Is this a trail rig itself, or your daily driver?

If it's your daily driver and you don't have a large tank that supplies your house with gas, then it is not worth it.

If it's a trail rig, and it's alredy FI'ed, you won't gain anything over the FI in my opinon other than not spilling fuel in a rollover or loosing pick-up in the tank at extreme angles and the tank is low. Now, if you are looking to convert from carb'ed, then propane all the way. Way less electrical issues, and with proper tank management (finding a good place to fill up before you head out on your trip and having enough tanks to last for a long weekend) you will love the pane.

Depending on the type of FI it can be cheaper to do the FI swap vs the propane mixer setup.

Guess I should read the entire post first. You won't gain anything over FI if you all ready have it on your truck. I just assumed you had a carb.

If it's a street/trail truck I won't do it but if it's a full trail rig I'd go propane all the way. I got sick of screwing with a stupid carb and FI isn't as cheap as eveyone thinks it is. I've got 250 bucks in my intire propane system and it works like a charm. It took me some time to piece it all togeather for the kind of money but I'd do it again. If you buy all new it will add up fast but it gets you back on the tail faster. I just ran the junky carb until I had everything and spent one night swaping over to propane. I've had zero problems with my system and it works perfect on any side hill you put it on. Just my .02

I've only got $150 bucks into my tbi fuel injection. Not as good as multi port FI but it's better than a carb.

Then there's something seriously wrong with it.

X2.

Ask anybody I wheel with. Mine never misses a beat, never dies or sputters. Next best thing to sliced bread.

If it's gonna be driven on the street, you have to buy an alternative fuel sticker to the tune of several hundred dollars a year.(you don't pay a road tax on propane, but the gov't IS gonna get their money. Also, you can't run a forklift tank, as it's not DOT approved.

For trail only, it's the best improvement I've made to my rig. I actually saw an increase in power compared to the carb setup. I'd recommend it to anyone running a carb with tuning problems

Fixed it...

I have never had to buy propane at a truck stop before, but do they charge road tax on it if it goes in a vehicle?

Had I not nearly burnt the truck down with a POS Holley, and then found a deal on my pane gear, I would have been in the same boat. I guess the Wheelin' Gods were smiling on me then.

Oh, and x4.

They don't charge road tax on propane (unless they've changed the laws recently) This is what the Alt. fuel sticker covers. I wouldn't want to get pulled over running 'pane w/o the sticker

I'm going to swap over to pane when I get back the simplicity and lack of computers and wires makes it all the better and you can run on any angle. Plus its cheaper than gas. I've been sold for years I'm just waiting on my motor to explode on me lol

If you don't street the vehicle, I don't see this as an issue, especially if you take your tanks in your DD to get them filled up. They don't need to know what it's going in when they fill the tanks, only that the tank is in good condition and has been properly inspected.

oof, that would be a pain the nads to get in and out for sure!

I have been looking for one around that size for my ranch truck. I think I know where one is in our local JY, so I may try and snatch it when I am home this next time. With our deal on propane we get because of the amount we buy for the broiler houses, it just makes too much sense not to (even if you were to pay some hoky fuel tax ).

If your tbi sputters somethings wrong with it It mite be cheaper to fix the problem than switch over to Pro. Check the TPS MAP and other sencers sounds like the TPS to me. Also put a fule presser gage on the rail make sure you have enough pressure. I didn't see what kind of vehical all this is in, if its a stock system (some aftermarket systems do to) it will have a diga port. You mite take it to someone that has a scanner to check the codes, these dam computers are pretty smart now a days, thay can (MOST OF THE TIME) tell you whats wrong with themselves. If you go Propane only your stuck with propane only. I have both I run a quadjet and a propane mixer. Run the gas just puttin around and the propane when I'm climbing. If you go propane only you can run a higher compression poston but thats a hole nother story.
This is how I look at it if I run complety out of fule (we go wheeling for 2 3 days at a time) whats the chances you can borrow a couple gls of propane??
