Propane question

Ok I got my hands on a 2nd hand propane kit for my Jeep 258 and got it hooked up and running. I havent mounted anything yet, or taken anything off but the carb. Now that I know it works good, I need to get everything routed and mounted to my liking, but I have a few questions for the people that have been there before me.

What do I do with this (the nipple) it says do not plug. do I run it to a vacuum off the intake? is it ok to be left alone (worried about trash getting in there)?

also I have a vacuum activated fuel shut off. does it matter which way it is mounted?

and the regulator (im guessing thats what it is) does it matter which way is up or down?

heres a link with some more pics

I really know nothing about jeeps -- but my guess is most of the propane systems are the same as far as mounting and connecting -- if you do a search on here for propane -- you can find alot of information as I know there are at least 3 or 4 of us that run propane and have pics on our build up threads -- dont know if that helps any -- but there is alot of great information out there.

mine has a grill over the opening that the nipple goes in so would just put a filter of some sort on it?

i mounted mine with the fuel lock off on top (vertical) of the vaporizer/regulator flush against the fire wall so that the fuel supply hose from the vapor. goes almost directly to the mixer. i can try to send pics if i can figure out how....

and the small vacuum line is going to the base (part off of the old carb) that the mixer is mounted to.

hope that helps a little!!

Here is how I mounted mine.

Although I don't have mine running yet. I just got one of the fittings in yesterday that was leaking so I hope to have it running soon.

You can mount the regulator and/or vacuum lock off in any configuration you want. Dosen't matter. The propane is a gas from the regulator on, and the motor draws it in w/ a vacuum. The port you are referring to under the screen sometimes is for an equalizing line. If you take a look at your mixer, you will find a plugged off port. Pop the plug out, and run a vacuum line from the mixer to the port on the regulator. It helps with adding more fuel when needed. Use this port also to compensate the fuel addition when adding a turbo.
I'm about to add a turbo to my 'paned truck, and have done a TON of research on the matter.

My biggest concern for adding a turbo was whether you could blow through the mixer. Most recent people are putting the mixer in front of the turbo. On toyotas this usually means using the efi intake for the throttle body. My 22r is an 81, and therefore the efi intake will not bolt up to the head. Using the blow through method means that I can leave the mixer sitting on the carbed intake. This is really the preferred method of turbocharging a propane system, provided you hook the equalizing line up between the mixer and regulator. This line compensates 1:1 for every # of boost added, according to the info I found on the net. All I need to do is buy a hat for the mixer, build/buy a turbo manifold, buy the turbo, and plumb it in. ~$600.00 in my case. This beats the $1400+ price tag to swap a 3rz in from a tacoma. I'll post up a buildup as soon as Christmas is over and the wifey let's me buy some goodies.
