slack in np208 and 10 bolt

How much slack is normal in a np208 with the transmission in park, When I take off the rear end jars. I think most of it is in the rear end but I can turn the driveshaft quite a bit back and forth in park. Also the 10 bolt has alot of slack, it is a g80, is this a sign the g80 is about to go?

No idea but i am interested in the answers to your questions. I get about 2 to 3 inches of roll when i put it in park and left off the brake. What about you?

Not sure haven't paid enough attention to it, but I took off and it felt like I was rear ended. I actually looked back to check.

I know what you mean. I also know that my 208 is shot because it had a fluid leak and i didnt think to check the fluid level in it after i bought it. Anny way it was running 2 or 3 quarts low so its gone. Im just trying to diagnose the problem but after christmas its getting a sm 465 and twin sticked 205!

Yea mine is wet with fluid, haven't check it yet. Would the slack in it be slack in the chain? or is the chain only for the front drive shaft?

I would think just wear and tear would cause the slack. The chains to get loose after lots of use, its just the way they were made.

I think most of the slack is in the slip yoke. My 208 is on its last leg. It was 2 quarts low on fluid, I topped it off and checked it a few days later and it was milky, I guess what fluid was in it before was mostly water. I checked and the vent hose is broke. I drained the fluid and there was metal shavings in the bottom of the case. Its got a howl and vibration that I thought was the tires but after seeing those shavings I think its coming from the 208. I also pulled the plug on the rear axle to check it and milky oil poured out of it. The vent tube was off of it too. Pulled the cover and cleaned it and refilled it and found that the rear axle has been replaced and its no longer a g80.
