Swaping Fuel Injection

What is the best or what options are good to consider when wanting to swap fuel injection onto a carbed rig?

It depends on how much $$$ you want to spend and how much work you want to do. You can buy a bolt on kit for about $1200 that comes w/ a mainifold throtle body and computer. Or you can go to a junk yard and get the same parts for about half the price but a lot of work to get the wiring harnnes pulled and then to cut and splice it to fit what you need. Then you need a electric fuel pump and a extra return line in to the gas tank. Now this is just for a TBI system (this is what I am looking to do). I dont know what is all involved to do TPI systems, so I cant help you much on that.
hope this helps

tpi...you have to start with a wireing diagram....then find a doner....get the
harness
computer
o2 sensors
intake upper and lowers
fuel rails
all other sensors like heat, map,
distributor & coil
run fuel lines out & in
high pressure pump
then you can have the pleasure of unwinding the rats nest called the harness
and finding the right wires to hook up to the right power..if you have never done it before, take your time and look at the diagram...I did it with a ford...but you could always go with a package like Holly or Howell,...like JMD4X4 said ,,L

I bought a complete '87 Suburban that had a 5.7L TBI and a trashed tranny. The engine bolted right in. I even made a new disk to adapt the in-tank fuel pump to my original saddle tank. Used all the Sub's fuel lines (well, 1/2 of them) since they had a splice near where the saddle tank goes. Purchased a harness w/ programmed chip (no emissions) for $330 shipped. Works great, I'd do it again if I could find another '87 for the right price.
Beware of the two middle intake manifold bolts on each side of the throttle body/carb. On the TBI heads they are drilled nearly vertical. On the older version they are all at the same angle. Swapping the whole engine is the way to go.

The intake will bolt onto older heads with a little work with a dremel tool.

i like that i idea but i have a lot of $$ in this engine and its running great. Propain sounds interesting, dose it cost less than gas per mile? and where do you "fill up"?

Propane used to be a bargain. Summer time it's a little cheaper than regular gas. But propane is not as efficient as gas, so you burn more of it to do the same work. It's kind of a wash. And you need to make sure you are carrying plenty of propane cuz you can't run into town and top off any time you feel like it.

But propane is no-brainer "fuel injection" and compared to a carb'd motor, this one advantage far outweighs it's disadvantages.

i see I think ill stay with pump gas but thanks for the idea and information. i did see a propain filling station at the austin airport though but it would be a pain to have to drive out there to fill up.

I would like $400.00 for it, if anyone is interested. I cant use it on my bbc.

Are you trying to get better gas milage or is for four wheeling etc ? I am going to put a Holley Truck Avenger on my K5, I have read up on them and have heard good things about them. Its also a lot cheaper and easier to hook up.

I`ve got the truck avenger on my bbc and it does great. My wife has TBI on her Scout and it will run at any angle. When she drove it to Del Rio she got 15mpg. Propane is a good option cause there is more places selling it everyday.

Just in case anybody out there is interested. I sell wiring harnesses, motor mounts and complete conversions to swap late model fuel injected motors into older pickups and cars. My personal vehicle is a 91 v1500 blazer that I swapped in a 6.0/4l80e out of a 02 3/4 ton chevy. But I can do harnesses for lt1/ls1/4.8/5.3/6.0 and I am also working on getting the diagrams for 4.3, 4.2(chevy inline 6), cummins, viper v10. On another note, I have heard alot of good things about propane as a gasoline additive because it works sort of like a catalyst helping to burn off all the gas. And the same for diesel. But the price of propane keeps going up so it really makes it not worth it IMO. But what I read a while back and like the idea of is an alternative fuel for diesels, I forget what its called but its basically cooking oil that has had all the particles filtered out, now that sounds like a good idea. They say there is no power loss but have no personal experience with it, and gets the same if not maybe a little worse mileage, and you can go to mcdonalds and fill up a drum and take to your house or wherever and filter it. haha you would have people behind you in traffic sticking their head out the window sniffing the air..........I can see it now.
