TBI fuel pressure vs carb

How much fuel pressure does a stock Chevy TBI in tank fuel pump put out?? How much does a carb require? I have a good working in tank TBI pump, but the engine is carbed, plan to do TBI later on. I am wondering if I should swap the sending unit, or just put a regulator on it for now??

My engine has a 3 fitting mechanical fuel pump, In-Out-Return. If I plumbed the factory fuel lines with the TBI pump to this pump, would I be able to get away with no regulator since the return would take back any extra fuel..

Stock TBI runs about 15 psi. Carb will probably run around 4 or 5. You will need a regulator to keep the pressure off the carb.

You can pull the pump out of the tank and extend the pickup tube down to the right level. I cut the pickup off another assembly I had and put it on the TBI unit. I ran it for a few years without any problems.

A stock TBI should run around 12 to 15 psi. a carb should be around 8 psi.

Agree with 2 above....
12 works but 15 is better for a TBI, seems like my Quadrajet was about 4 or 5.

I dont want to modify the pump, I plan to put TBI on the engine once I round up the parts, may look at swapping the entire sending unit out though. If not, then I guess regulator it is.

IIRC, 87 or 88 is the last year that the hole in the tank is the same as the carb'd engines. I modified my '87 pump unit to fit my '78 tank.

this tanks is a 91 suburban, so old body style. I figure that 73-87 1/2 and 3/4 tons and 73-91 Blazer, burban, and 1 tons would all interchange since they were same body style.

May be wrong though

It's a fuel injection related thing, not the body.

Gotcha, just figured that they may all have same tank design being same body style, who knows. Either way, I would prefer to leave the pump alone since I do intend on putting TBI on here soon

You probly just by pass the in-tank pump right now. With some hose. Add put in a carb pump on the block or electric one in-line.. If not you'll have to add a regulator. But you'll have to find one were the tbi pump pressure want hurt the carb regulator.

I know i keep blowing tbi regulator diafram's. Sence im putting 30 psi to my tbi. And i think a carb well do the same thing with to much psi.
