Tranny Question...

I found an sm465/t221 combo on craigslist and am wondering if i can use just the tranny in my truck. The guy said it came from a 68 so i am assuming that means it would be the 10 spline output. Was this a stock combo or did he have to do something to make them fit together?

I am kind of confused about something. No disrespect but myself and others have given you so many different opportunities to get a SM465 with and without a t-case, yet you still are asking for one. What gives? You keep going back to units which are weaker than the revised versions that folks are offering you at great prices. Mitch and Obijuan have what you are looking for. If you need a t-case, 208 in particular, I have a few that you can get real cheap. They work, you just need to get the right input gear.

Again, not trying to be disrespectful or mean. I just don't understand your method of operation.

Okay i am going to try and explain this so bare with me.

Im really tight on money and am just trying to find a new 10 spline sm465 to replace mine. All the ones i seem to find are 32 spline so thought of going that route but i really want to try and stay away from the 208(had one, didnt really like it) and the 205s are super expensive and there is nothing wrong with the one i have. So that leaves me to find a 10spline sm465. I am really limited on the time i can travel since i am still in highschool so i am trying to find somethingmore local. Make sense?

I've seen a few of them together (465/t221). I have never had one but I have heard that they have some oiling issues. It will be a 10 spline version trans.

That's a pretty old trans to be putting in your blazer unless it has been rebuilt. I would think it has been pretty worn out by now even though they are tough transmissions.

I would find a newer one with a 205 as they are not that hard to find.

Hey Kyle,

I understand perfectly. No shame man. I was just curious. Did not want you to feel put on the spot. Just wanted to know where you were coming from. If we knew your budget, that would help us, help you.

So if you(directed at anyone who wants to answer) were in my position what would you do? Would you find a 32 pline sm465/208 combo to fix the bad tranny and then look for a 32 spline 205 to swap in later OR Would you just try and find another 10 spline sm465?

I would buy the 32 spline that I have.

Actually, think about it like this.....pay for it now or pay for it later(again). If you want a 32 spline but dont have the money, I understand, but then you will be paying for another 10 spline, or pay to rebuild yours and thenpay for a 32 spline later(more money spent). Get a 32 spline and put a 208 on it for now and swap in the 205 later.

P.S. as for my 32 spline, I have no idea of it's condition. It felt ok shifting it, but I didnt dig into it at all. I was just busting your balls anyway.

Jeeps are for girls
And guys that wish they were girls.....

Automatic transmissions are gay.

Flipped up tow mirrors are the sagging pants of the truck world.
