Vortec 350 questions

Picked up a vortec for my buggy and part of me says stock would be plenty but I'd kinda like to do a lil extra. The things it will get for sure is propane and HEI. Other than that I'm thinking a cam and head shave.

If I did a cam I'd like a pretty decent one and if it means the heads will need work to work(valve springs relief) then that's fine. I'm not going to put a mild cam for just 20hp when I could go bigger is what I'm getting at.

I'm shooting for around 350-400hp. Is this at all ubtainable with head work and cam? Or will there need to be different pistons or block work?

I found this cam and it looks fairly nice but am kinda fishing for what guys have used and what there results were.

Thanks!

Fishtaylor has a badass 350 in his rig. Maybe you can dig around and find some specs?

A search through his posts turned up pretty uneventful.

I have never been a fan of Crane's grinds. My suggestion would be to look at a Lunati Voodoo series or a Comp XE series. It'll be pretty easy to squeeze 350+ out of it.

Ok will do. Are the numbers at all in the ballpark tho or would you tweak anything?

I've had more than one comp XE cam, and I enjoyed all of them. Great sound, good power, and streetable.

IMO, I wouldnt think a stock vortec would be underpowered. My 96' runs great, right at 300hp and will kill 40's.

I don't remember, are you planning on running an auto or a standard? Here's an example of what I would consider running, if an auto. This is from a quick look and based on previous experiences.

Glad I could help! I wouldn't go much larger than that with an auto in a crawler. Either one of those profiles will build some great low end grunt and a nice midrange.

Call Oregen Cam they can grind you one for your needs for way cheaper.
Then name brand ones. And tell any valvetrain upgrades you mite have to do.

A nice intake and do a home port job on it and the heads would also help a lot.
