any diesal guys on here? if so i got a ? for ya

so i have read a lot about hard starting, no wait to start lights & bad vp44. i got a new one for ya'll

my '99 for the last few weeks has been doing some thing very odd off & on. some times when i get in the truck and go to start it there will be no wait to start light nor will my LP not sound (it's been relocated to the back of the cab very loud) but all the other lights on the dash will light up. then when they go out the WTS light comes on and the LP starts a buzzing. after they go out i start the truck. now here lately after all that and the truck is running i go to give it a little bit of pedal & the darn thing revs to 4000 rpms or higher and i will have to turn the truck off & restart it some times it will work like it should some times it does the same thing over & over. so has any one ever had this happen to them or am i the only one?

PS. when this happens some times i will unplug the batterys over night & in the morning hook them back up and its all fine for a fwe days. it does not mater if the truck is warm or cold it has a mind of its own for sure.

thank's for any help in fixing this.

I dont have an answer to your problem, but here's a link to a good cummins forum. I would recommend joining if you havent already, there's a lot of knowledgeable and helpful people on there. http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/index.php

Sounds like a computer problem. Not much help on those kind of issues though. You can also try thedieselgarage fourums they have a pretty big cummins section.

check...

Check ALL your connections, which is a pain but one may not be making a good connection. Theses connections will have dialectric grease on them so leave it and if any comes off reapply some as this keeps the connectors from corroding. Clean all the battery connections and ground cables and the points on the body and engine they attach to which is a good idea anyway. Then go to the fuse box and make sure all the fuses are pushed in good to the fuse sockets and check the power cables to the fuse box too. Just some preliminary ideas before you spend hard earned cash.

thanks oldgoat i just checked back here to see if any one has replyed and seen your post. ifs funny i went and did some checking i think i found a plug that was not making good contact (water temp) or the computor was stuck in some kind of mode that was telling the motor to over fuel when it got hot. any how unpluged it and repluged it and so far it seem to be working even when its up to temp unlike this morning. i will keep ya'll posted as far as if that fixed it. thanks
