Back from the Dead!!

Today is the first day since the 22nd that I have felt like sitting up long enough to type on the computer. I had back surgery on my lower lumbar and so far it's been a success. I had no idea how painfull it would be after though. First couple of days after surgery was a kinda like a blurr, those pain pills really work.

Go back to my back doc on the April 4th to get the staples out and hopefully be released for work. It's going to be a long 2 weeks.

I had lower back surgery 4yrs ago and it's a son of a B**** but if you take it slow and gently work into your physical therapy you'll do o.k.. Wait til the first good cold front..........You'll LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!! Did you have any metal put in? I was told I would NEVER go back to doing Air Conditioning work after surgery but I have owned my own company now for 3yrs and other then the 8months after surgery I have made it through. You will have your good days and bad days, just take it slow. GOOD LUCK

Bruiser, how did you mangle your back sufficiently to require surgery?

Thanks for all the kind words guys! I believe it will be 10x better than it was before I had surgery, I can already feel the difference!

OldGoat--Can't tell you my real name--the IRS would surely find me then.lol I think I did hear the phone ring once, but I didn't think I could make it so why bother.lol

X--It was not one indcident that caused the need for surgery. It was a progression over time. Lifiting things that I shouldn't have lifted over the years. About 3 years ago I stooped to brush my teeth and two discs pushed on a nerve that runs to both of my legs. When that happened I made it back to bed and stayed there for 3 days straight, I couldn't move. I don't think I will ever forget that morning.

So I've been dealing with my right leg being partitally numb for 3 years and it just got to the point where I couldn't even stand up for more than 5 minutes without wanting a chair to set in really baddddddddddddddddddd. Didn't hurt to walk or sit, but standing still was not very comfy at all.

The surgery was not a real major one compared to most. All the Doc did was trim the two discs away that was pushing on that nerve and fused the lower one. No metal of anykind, just some borrowed bone from someone else.lol

Each day I feel a little better, going to take it slow and follow the doc's orders. I want this to be a success, dont' want to have to go through it again.

Mine was also a progression over the years. I sat down on my daughters bed on morning to wake her up and stood up, took a few steps and felt a huge burning down my legs. Found out some bone fragments were killing my blood supply to my left leg and hitting my syatic nerves to my legs. Just take your time and ease back into things. Slowly and properly the first time will help prevent a second time. Good luck and get well.

that is the main thing. Do what they tell you to do no matter how good you feel. Take it easy for as long as they tell you to.

I had knee surgery in 1998 and haven't had any problems at all, and still do alot of the things I did before like ride my mountain bike and I still jump my 4 wheeler at the dunes. I did give up racing my bike after the crash that resulted in knee surgery. I went to a sports medicine doctor and did all the physical therapy stuff they told me to even though I thought it was stupid. I took off work for 6 weeks and stayed on crutches fro 2 weeks even though I felt like I didn't need to. But know almost 8 years later I have no problems. The weather doesn't even affect it like everyone said it would. Of course the only metal they put in was a few screws.
