cdl

just started working for a new company and they asked me if i would be willing to get a cdl so i could haul the backhoes and other stuff when we're doing underground. so what i want to know is are there any reasons not to get a cdl? 10 years or so ago another company asked if i'd get 1 but was talked out of it by some friends for reasons i can't remember right now

I don't have one. But I know you are gel to a higher standard in and out of the truck, meaning even your own car. U can lose your cdl easy and then your job may them have a reason not to need you.

I wouldn't get it of your are a speeder or own a crotch rocket.

I wouldn't hesitate to get one if my job needed me to. And on the plus side once you have a couple years under your belt with it you may be able to get a job driving tractor trailers. I always thought I 'd enjoy that.

I've got one and like was said if you like to speed or drink and drive around you're gonna have a hard time. I constantly worry about getting infractions in my personal car to the point where I mainly make the wife drive while on my own time. Other than that I like the fact I can drive anything anywhere.

I just got mine too, and I've become a grandpa driver now. Its nice to have though. Mines only a class B so doesnt do me any good when it comes to driving big rigs.

i grew up driving 18 wheelers with my dad but i never went for my cdl. i get bored driving after a while but i've driven almost every stretch of interstate in this country between driving with my dad or running around doing government projects. i do have a habit of speeding but on the rare occasion i do get a ticket i can generally get out of them or i just take probation and get them dismissed. so other then being held more accountable what are the other reasons to not get a cdl. my job isn't dependant on me getting 1 but it may open more doors eventually

I would go for it. in a year or so..I plan to get mine with the company I am in...well, granted I become a Trailer Tech.
sense I really don't drink....thats the only issue I see. Higher standard on the alcohol which means takes less to get a DUI.
