CJ, YJ, TJ, huh?

What is the differences between the CJs, YJs, TJs, XJs, etc? They all look the same to me. I don't know what's what, and I'm all confused tryin' to find the right stuff for sale for my buddy lookin' for a jeep. Can someone give me the run down on the pros/cons/differences between all the jeeps?

Thanks!

CJ= Cheap
YJ= You get what you pay for
TJ= To small
XJ= X-tra parts you will need to buy to make a capable rig.
Buy a Cheby!!!!

I was wondering the same thing..I have no clue. It may have to do with leafs or coil-over. susp.

CJ is the [almost] original. CJ5 tiny, CJ7 longer, newer.

YJ is what came when Chrysler bought Jeep. Modified CJ7 with square headlights. Still has leaf springs. 87-95 years. all 4 cylinders fuel injected in some fashion, 6 cyl got injection in 91. Also known as a Wrangler, but anyone who knows anything about Jeeps knows to call it a YJ.

There was no 96 Wrangler.

TJ 97 to 2006. Coil sprung all 4 corners. A return to round headlights. AKA Wrangler to those who don't know much about Jeeps. "TJ" or "TJ Sahara" or "Rubicon" are the 'in-the-know' names.

XJ is the little cherokee or wagoneer. Not a grand waggy. Coils front, leafs rear, solid axles f&r. Capable trail rigs with lift tires etc. Lot's of aftermarket support. Unit body construction (no frame per se).

MJ is the Comanche pickup based on XJ. Some how Jeep worked out a frame underneath this thing. Hard to find these days.

WJ is a Grand Waggy I think. 4 coils, might be IFR (not sure...don't care). KJ is a Liberty (I think...don't really care).

JK is the new Wrangler. It's a whole nuther animal they tell me.

That help?

Disappearance of the true Jeep (leaf springs bay-bee!)

Leaves from 1940 through 1995. 56 years
Coils from 1997 to present. 11 years

Which is a true Jeep?

FSJ is an owner's/enthusiast's term for Full Size Jeep. Could be the old big Chero or Waggy or J10/20/30 Gladiator pickup.

DJ is a Postal Jeep (2 wheel drive).

Well I've had them all CJ-2A to My current LJ RUBI.
And for my .02 The coils are the best thing jeep did.
They let the Jeeps true potential shine thru. ( bay bee! )

Thanks for all the quick replies. The information you have all provided really helped out alot in my knowledge of jeeps. It has also kind of made me want one. :-)

But for now, it is still the Chevy and the Ranger.

Thanks,
-Brandon
