Compressed air spud gun

Just curious if anyone has ever made one using compressed air instead of flammable fuel. I have an idea. Just curious what anyone else has done. I may be crazy here.

Nevermind, I finally typed in the right thing and found tons of info.

I can shoot a tater or apple around 200 yrds with mine.

4"x10" air chamber

2 1/2"x 30" heavy PVC barrell.

About 110psi will make a tater smoke trail in the air.

I smile every time I fire it. It was built as a t-shirt cannon, but the semi solid stuff is way more fun to shoot.

Well here is the thought, In this small town I live in, we have a "Dress up you car" Halloween show. During my insomnia state last night I came up with idea. I was going to bring the scrambler, but that is just normal. I love Oddball's character from Kelly's Heroes. So, I am thinking of going as Oddball, Driving the Deuce, building a cannon for the rear, and shooting candy out of it. Like I said in the first post. I may be crazy here.

If you want to launch little stuff like candy, the key is to load a tight "packing" behind the candy.

I'd stick to 40-60 psi if people are at risk of getting hit.

The plan this winter is to build a much larger version for pumkins.

Gonna use plastic or foam cups I think. Fired mortar style from the back of the truck into the air. Used to do candy drops out of my RC plane. It don't hurt falling. 20-30 psi is all you probably get with a spud gun...should be plenty. Run it off the dueces air tanks.

Candy Cannon complete. So far the test have been very good. At 40psi it will throw a good size cup of candy 30 feet into the air. It spreads it nice too.

Still have some bracing to build and a mount to put it in the back of the deuce.

This is a manifold from an old air tank I had. It will allow me to air and view PSI at the same time.

This is the air vale. it runs off a 9volt batt and will use a simple push butting switch for the trigger.

Why would you need one in a larger size? This will let all the air out. It is a 1" Sprinkler valve.

That is a HUGE volume of air lol. A buddy of mine had one half that size and launched spuds further than my fuel powered one.

I wanted a lot of air for noise they launch further becuase they can take more pressure. Fuel will build up maybe 30psi The Valve can take 150psi. on this one.

I am going for a scatter effect so the more air the better. As the packing pushes the candy out the extra air does a great job of scattering it loosely. I would say I get about a 30-40" dia Spread on it.

I am going to shorten this one and see if it makes any difference but I like it being seen out of the back of the deuce. This will be standing and shot mortar style.

The candy cannon was a huge success. Thurs. I took it to Emily's Daycare for their Halloween party. I Brought the Deuce and stood in the back most of the time firing it. it would through candy about 30-40 feet in the area and would spread it all over the playground. Halloween we took it to a party in a Huge gymnastic gymnasium. It was awesome watching the Kids running all around fighting for the candy. Screw the Pinata.
