Concrete guys: question

Hey Y'all,

I received a quote for a concrete patio and it seems rather high. I wanted to fire this past y'all and see what you think. I'm looking at about 1.9 cu. yds. (rounded) of concrete.

Thanks,

Manny

Here's what is stated for $3200.00

Existing patio to be removed and hauled away. New dimensions of a roughly 10x12 to be formed. Ground preparation, installation of base and #6 flat sheet mesh(city code for your car to drive on), vibratory compacted, doweled into foundation every 24" with #3 rough dowels, expansion joint along existing slab and edging tool between the new patio and the A/C unit. Plaster upon completion. All material to be hauled away by days end from street.

Last I checked in my area. Concrete was about $105 yrd.
Seems to be quite a bit of labor being made. They're taking you as your everyday run of the mill idiot. Bargain with them some and I bet you can get alot off of that price.
For example, I just had a new roof put on my house. Most bids were between $8500 to $9500. Well I wasn't going to pay that. I threatened to purchased the material myself and just pay them for their labor. All and all it ended up costing me $5475. What most of them do is over buy the material and use the left over on the next job and so on. I'm not saying go buy the concrete and mesh, but do research on how much they're getting you for on the labor. Then you can haggle them a little bit. There's a s###load of other contractors that are starving to death right now if they don't want to deal with you.

That seems REAL high, but in one day it sounds good.

$2500 for the size sounds about right.....

If you were in Houston, I could hook you up with a concrete contract as I am related to the Dorsey Brothers.
