Discovery Channel: Hogs Gone Wild

I just saw an episode of "Hogs Gone Wild" on Discovery Channel. It's about companies capturing feral hogs who are invading farms, apartment complexes, housing, etc.

I've never seen a feral hog before. Mean suckers. Those things are huge. They even had an episode on hogs raising Cane on a Texas ranch. The only thing I didn't understand is why they try to capture them live. I'd shoot them or like in some episodes, a well placed knife to the heart.

If you haven't seen the show, watch it. It's cool. They even had a huge Great Dane hunt down and pin the boar in the Texas episode. That was awesome.

lol shooting makes for bad tv. what danger is a 44 mag at 10 feet vs. tieing them up , then killing offscreen.

Come to my house sometime. haha. I've got pictures of them on the steps going up to my front door. Also, they're usually caught live, because you can sell them live. When I would trap hogs in high school, you got a head bonus, then $$$ per pound. And the bigger they are, the more each pound was worth.

From what i remember, anything over 250lbs hog had a $50 head bonus, then $0.50 per pound.

They dont taste to bad, lots of them in the canyon up here. Most people will let you hunt them for free. They are quite a pest to the farmers.

HUGE pests. I once saw a documentary about how the Texas government paid a group of people to fly around in helicopters and shoot them with an assault rifle.

My old boss had a hunting lease by Quana(sp) and he said the land owners would let you come out and kill as many as you could haul off. They would tear the hell out of the place. He would tell me that you always carried a pistol on you cause if you came upon a group of hogs then it would turn into a you against them scenario. They are mean and in packs down right fearless. Good eatin though!

That is the worst show I have seen to date on the D channel. It is complete garbage. Dear Lord they must have hired every tree huggin animal rights activist known to man to make that show.

Just SHOOT the [email protected] pigs!!!

Problem solved.

For anyone that has a hog problem there is a very simple solution if you do not have the time or ammo to have a good time.

Get a box of clay shotgun targets (the old style ones that are made from asphalt pitch) Either shoot them (the fun way) or grind them up then spread them in a row. Hogs can not resist eating the [email protected] and it will kill them quicker than a diabetic on a binge at a candy store.

There very bad around here!

There's a local sporting goods/outdoors store not to far from my house called wolf outdoors in center tx and there having there anual hog cleanup or something like that coming up pretty soon. It's a 10 day event that pays $10,000 to the person or group who kills the most hogs. I thought it was pretty neat but don't have the time to try to do that.

Reminds me of the mouse trap I bought yesterday. It enables you to "live release" the mice... yeah right.

We used to hunt hogs on my grandfather-in-law's place. He had feeders for his sheep. We would sneak from one feeder to the next at night. I think the most hogs we got in one night was 34, and that was only a drop in the bucket.

I used to go out with my buddy and his in-laws and we'd run dogs to bring them in on the hoof. Too much trouble in my opinion. At the deer lease around Uvalde, we can't shoot them fast enough to put a dent in their population because they literally breed like rats. You can only put so much in your freezer and the rest... well they just just go to the boneyard.
