Was wanting to know the milage you get for everyday driving unloaded. Manual or automatic would like to hear from both sides. Thinking of a new way to get both rigs to the trail but it will also be a daily driver and not sure how the 4:88's will do?

What he said.........A buddy of mine works for Furd and drives a f550 everyday for them making pick ups all over Texas and says it's worthless with the 6.4. The problem is the other truck has the 6.0 and is worse.

I know this is not what you are asking for, but I just use Bruiser's new Dodge 3500 to pull his goose neck trailer loaded down with my Blazer, and a **** load of firewood. On top of that I had a 18 ft pop up camper also. I was around 13000#'s was able to do 75 and 80 with no problem. I ended up slowing down to 60 mph for most of the trip for better gas mileage. His truck only had about 2100 miles on it when I picked it up.

6.4 is a good eng. they only had one really bad problem. the pcm update took care of it.
the only real problem is there is no space to work in the eng bay. you would have to remove the front clip & cab to work on heads & turbos tho.
the 6.0 that is a pos.

dodge still have there problems w/ there aoto trans. if you get a dodge get a stick.

the duramax does have a excellent combo w/ the ally. if you want a auto.
not any real problems as of yet.
no more inj. problems.

I would also suggest a dodge 3500, or even the 4500 that is coming out. The 3500 is more than enough truck to pull two rigs. I've seen an 07 pull a 40' with two buggies and my heavy K10 and get close to 10 mpg with plenty of power to spare. The same truck has also hauled a 13k lb bucket truck; the same load has been pulled by a 2nd gen truck.

I pulled my gooseneck and 1 ton rig to Satan' with my dad's '02 dodge. His truck only has 40K miles on it and I got 10mpg towing about 10K lbs. Highway mileage unloaded was 17.5.

I already have a cummins the problem is that I am spoiled to my 37' travel trailer and I want to take it along with the mall crawler and the 550 is the only decent looking thing I can buy that will be able to carry the mall crawler on the back and tow the trailer. This will also be a daily driver that is why I wanted to know about the milage. However I just got back from buying a older cummins so now I have to take two trucks and teach the wife how to tow a trailer.

Looks like I am a little late for the information here but you get the picture. I have an 06 F550 with the 6oh. I get about 10 MPG as it is set up with a service bed with crane and everything else. It weights in @17K by itself. I drive it like I stole it. Only thing I have had to do is put in fuel and change the oil. Also have a 03 6oh King Ranch CC 4x4 dually that has had a egr cooler hose replaced along with a sensor changed out twice that started leaking oil. Again driving it like I stole it I get 14.5 in town 19.2 highway and 12.5 towing the 18ft with the Zuke and tool box on it. My Dad just picked up an 08 King Ranch CC dually that has 8K miles on it. Getting 15.1 empty and got 12.1 pulling a 34 foot double slide 5th wheel back from Indiana. He is running a hotshot business with his. If it were me I would wait a bit before jumping on the new 6.7s until they get the regen thing totally figured out. Dodge is having a slight learning curve right now. One thing for sure is that the King Ranch seats will make your butt laugh at long rides like no other truck. I usually would not spend the extra cash on trim packages and such but since I got this one I might just spring for it again when I get my new one. JJ

I drive a f450 dually...if your looking for MPG forget it!!! I might get 9-10 with the 6.4
IF you could care less and just want something that hauls down the road like you have nothing back there then yeah, it might be what your looking for.

For me It works perfect....everyday around town (i rarely get over 45mph)the extra low gearing from the 4:88's makes it nice for start and stop traffic...and nearly everytime I'm on the highway I am pulling a trailer in which case all concerns of fuel mileage go out the window. If i had to do alot of daily unloaded highway driving I would go back for a f350 or Cummins.

As someone who is a fan of all 3 american auto manufactures, the more trucks advance and change the more they stay the same. When it comes to trucks the same old comparisons apply. If you just want brute force performance and toughness you go Ford, if you want economy and quality of ride you go GMC, and if you want a medium of the two with a slight increase in powertrain longevity you go Dodge.

From the sound of your posts you are probably best in sticking with the Dodge. It will still give you good daily driver results and still be good for towing.

Jason, install a 5th wheel on the mall crawler and park both the camper and the rig on your goose neck.- lol
The wife and I went round and round about the best way to get our camper and rig to the park. Now we are doing the train thing, but if we had had the cash, buying a motor RV and having it pull a bumper trailer is the best way to go. You get towing and your camper.

This is true, but it's nice to have something smaller than an RV to run into town.

Not sure about the F-series pickups, but my 07 Classic D-max gets 18-22.5mpg unloaded and 13-15 loaded. Plenty of power for me but I also don't haul 15K+ either. I would recommend either a LBZ Dmax or a 6.7 Dodge......both great trucks. Good luck on your decision.

Probly cheaper for you to buy a different trailer set up. One with a camper on front and a flat deck for your buggy. Ive seen some real nice one out there. And this is the time of year to buy them off folks. they have no need for them and want x-mas money.
