Fellow wheeler needs help

I just got a call that my friend Bryan's (blk87k5) dad was in a bad accident this evening. Apparently, he was driving Bryan's buggy, rolled it, and flew out of the buggy and it rolled on top of him. That's about all I know at this point, but from what I understand he's in pretty bad shape and had to be airlifted out. You might keep him in your thoughts tonight.

Just found out some more info. It looks like he's going to be ok. He got beat up pretty good, but no major damage, everything still works. The main scare was that he had a severe concussion and went into a seizure and wasnt responding, but now he is.

He was loading the buggy on the trailer getting ready to head to the rock race in CO this weekend. The throttle stuck open, the buggy ran up the trailer, on top of the truck and then rolled before he even had time to react.

This is the fourth person this buggy has seriously injured. It's likely going to get cut up after this.

Even a guy that absolutely does not believe in superstition thinks it's cursed.

Hmmm. I've seen this buggy moving under it's own power. It looks kinda cool. That was a year or more ago and I assumed they were trying some experimental things and had lots of work yet to do.

And that's all I'm going to say about that.

I wish/pray a speedy recovery for Marshall.

I've been on the phone with Brian on-and-off all night. Hell, I was talking to him on the phone about 15 minutes before it happened. We hung up, and then about 20 minutes later he called me back to tell me there was an accident, and that he was waiting on details. Speaking of details, here we go:

::::::::::::::::::::::::::

- Bryan (blk87k5) is working in Missouri over the summer. He was driving out to Colorado to compete in this weekend's XRRA competition.

- His dad, Marshall (mdg01) had the buggy out in Boyd. He's been working on it the past couple of weeks (since it blew up in Clayton on the 19th) and was going to tow it out to Colorado for Bryan to compete in it this week.

- As Marshall was loading the buggy on the trailer, the throttle got stuck. The buggy LAUNCHED up the trailer, into the bed of the pickup, and up the cab of the pickup. Once it got half-way on top of the cab, it flipped off the side of the cab and landed on it's lid.

- Marshall got a pretty severe blow to the head, causing a concussion and seizure. He apparently has some other minor injuries as well (possibly some broken bones oor contusions). They were going to CareFlight him, but they ended up taking him in a regular ambulance instead. I believe they took him to the hospital in Decatur (but I'm not 100% positive about that).

- He wasn't responding at first because of the concussion/seizure, but he's doing better now. They poked him in the foot with a needle and his toes wiggled, so that's a good sign. He seems to be responding in-general, but he's obviously pretty out of it right now.

- Bryan's buddy (Jason, I believe) went over there as soon as this happened. He made sure everything was okay with the house and what-not, and he flipped the buggy back over as well. He seemed to be relatively positive about Marshall's condition (or so, that's Bryan's interpretation of how he was acting).

- Bryan is on his way to the DFW area now. He's about an hour north of Wichita, KS at the moment. Should be here in the morning.

- The hospital is going to keep Marshall for at least one night; observation due to the head injury. He's going to have to see a neck doctor tomorrow (he's had neck/back problems in the past). Don't know about what's going to happen after that.

- Marshall does have good insurance, so this isn't going to destroy them financially or anything.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I know it freaked me the **** out, I can tell you that much.

I'm glad Marshall isn't hurt REALLY bad. Bryan seems to think he'll be fine because, as he said, "he's a tough old son-of-a-*****!"

I talked to Bryan earlier. His dad is doing ok, but is really sore. He said they were waiting for the cat scan results to come back.

Here's some pics of the truck and buggy. http://www.grimmjeeper.com/buggy_down/
