Unhappy Filing for Unemployment. Advise PLEASE?

I feel like white-trash even asking this, but due to very UNCERTAIN circumstances at my work and a pending job elsewhere in 2 months, I am looking into Unemployment.
Aside from my obvious dissapointment at my current job, the drive is 125miles a day and it is KILLING ME in fuel! Pretty much, there is every reason to quit.
I dont really HAVE to have income for the 2mon period, but I would really like to if possible.
How does one go about filing for unemployment? Is it worth it?
I dont want to get another job just to up and quit in a few months.

Thanks for any advise/help!

i think if you quit, you don't qualify for unemployment.

I think jeff is right, but contact your local texas employment commision. Nothing to be asamed of in my opinion. I once claimed unemployment after being layed off.

Yup, I believe jeff's right as well...

Go deliver pizza or something similar in the downtime. It'll at least keep a little spare change in your pockets, and you won't be logging as many miles daily. Most average $8-10 an hour.

It's a great short-term job, and I'd much rather spend time driving around in my truck than standing around flipping burgers. Plus, when you quit, it's not like you were quitting a "real" job.

If I was fired or quit my job, can I collect benefits?
Once your unemployment insurance claim application is submitted, TWC will investigate the reason you are no longer working. If it is determined you were not fired for misconduct connected with your work or you quit your job for a work-related or medical reason, you may be eligible for unemployment insurance benefits. TWC will notify you by mail of any decisions.

https://m06hostp.twc.state.tx.us/CLA...mmon/help.html

If you quit your last job or your employer fired you, we will send you a decision in writing once we determine whether you are qualified based on your job separation. The written decision is on a Determination on Payment of Unemployment Benefits form.

IMO -- go deliver pizzas -- nothing wrong with that -- it is good $"s and unemployment will take at least 6 weeks to do all their paperwork even before they give you a yes or no answer -- so go make some side $'s and enjoy the time off -- get that "Honey-Do-List" taken care of !!

Just get a temp job and tell them up front. I go through 2 or three guys a month at my work place. Most of them tell me up front that they just need something to get them by for a few months until they can find a more stable job.

I'd go file as your last option. It takes a few weeks to get your first check and if you get fired or quit it's nearly imposible to get aid. They work like an insurance companys. They will damn sure take your money but when it comes time to pay up they will have a million reasons not too.

IMO, it's not even worth it to apply. I was laid off year before last because my boss decided to leave town. I was going to school part time in the mornings at the time. I got about three letters saying they approved me and then a few weeks later I got one saying I was denied because my going to school prevented me from working a full time job. I jumped through all their hoops and got jack squat.

The part that sucked the most was that I ended up not being able to go back the next semester anyway.

Alot of information, thank you everyone! Unfortunantly, I am getting conflicting stories here just as well as everywhere else. Seems there is no true rhyme or reason to it.
