Income Tax mini-rant

So I'm finalizing my income tax return (I owe a lot this year, so I wait til the last minute to send), adding in a paltry bit of interest ($26) from a savings account I had forgotten about. I go back and check the tax table and wouldn't you know it...this little $26 kicked me to the next line and bumped my taxes up $13.

In effect, I'm paying 50% interest on this little 1099-int. Crap.

Screw saving all your receipts, screw filing deadlines, screw penalties for not filing and/or not paying on time. Get rid of big government by drastically reducing the number of IRS agents required.

National Sales Tax.

Pay as you go. Everybody pays. Every business; every illegal alien; every street bum when he buys his booze; etc. Pay as you go. Buy a lot of stuff? Pay a lot of tax (in dollars). Buy a little bit of stuff? Pay a little tax (in dollars). It's fair; totally fair. Only one exception: buying your main residence (but pay sales tax on your summer house at the beach). What's that? You later make a permanent move to the beach? Tough. The taxes you paid on it cover the home you no longer live in that you didn't pay taxes on.

Government/public entities exempt (what purpose would it serve to tax the folks who are spending our money that was raised from the sales tax?). School districts, transit authorities, counties, states, feds, soil and water conservation districts, ad nauseum.

Oh yeah...rent gets taxed too. And groceries. Everything. The more things to tax, the lower the percentage has to be to cover the fed budget. Don't want to pay a lot of tax? Don't buy a lot of stuff.

Angry I hate taxes on my rights.

I have the right to carry a gun by the power of The Bill of Rights. If I pay a tax, they will let me sometimes some places. If the government is not a cancer, I am a doctor. If we don't find a bunch of "government doctors" the cancer will soon devour us. On the bright side there is no sense getting up tight, because it is too late. Both lungs (democrats and republicans) are too far gone. The only way we could be saved is a transplant, unless God decides to have pity on us, and gives us a miracle.

Don't hold your breath, because that will not help. Realize that no one in government cares about the people, only about the power...to control purse strings. If you think either party cares, you are a fool. We are all fools, and we prove it every day. Live like you are dying, because you are. Pleasant dreams yawll.

Well, in honor of your rant, I thought you would enjoy knowing where your money is going (with apologies to any Houston Chronicle readers who have seen the full article already):

1. The Federal Government will spend $23,760 per household in 2006.
2. The Federal Government will collect "only" $20,044 per household in taxes.
3. The remainder is our deficit.

Here's how that 23 grand is going to be spent:

1. Social Security/Medicare: $7875
2. Defense: $4701
3. Low-income programs: $3579
4. Interest on federal debt: $1,930 (that's on $8.2 TRILLION in debt, $4.9 trillion of which is to public bond owners, the rest to mostly to repay the Social Security trust fund, which is raided by your representatives and senators every year)
5. Federal employee retirement benefits: $870
6. Education: $732
7. Health research/regulation: $671
8. Veterans' benefits: $618
9. Community and regional developement: $456 (that's up $300 thanks to FEMA and Katrina)
10. Highways/mass transit: $402 (mostly financed by the tax you pay at the pump)
11. Justice administration: $373
12. Unemployment: $338
13. International affairs: $305 (embassies, foreign aid, etc. This has doubled since 9/11)
14. Natural resources/environment: $287 (this includes national parkes,e tc.)
15. Agriculture: $235
