I'd have to say she's pathetic and just looking to get a rise out of people. We grew up with the same influences and I certainly don't agree with her view of Lubbock.

the really sad thing is, all the older folk around here were so proud of her, and her affiliation with the Maines' family. everyone was more than supportive and happy to see her make something of her life. we're proud of our "music heritage" and were happy to have her as a part of it.

now--the people like me, who went to school with her, who knew her... that's a whole 'nother story. yeah we dog her. yeah we dislike her. and no, we really don't want her back. happy to see her go with her "I'm better than you because my daddy was in a 'band' and someday I'm gonna be too" attitude.

sad part is that she'll never be able to get over her life that she's made for herself. she was the fat little blonde kid in school. she skinnied up a little and became the chubby cheerleader in junior high, and blimped out in high school. she's always lacked confidence in herself--and I'd attribute a lot of it to the way this city treats fat people--just like it did me. nobody ever held her music over her head or told her she wouldn't make it. but she has continually used her gifts of celebrity and song to run this place into the ground.

I was born in Levelland and my folks lived in Lubbock during my childhood. My grandaddy was a boot-maker who had a shop downtown for 30 years. I returned to Lubbock for 4 years while I was in college and have nothing but good feelings and memories.

Just one more reason not to buy their crap.

Besides, everybody in Lubbock knows Bob Wills is still the king.

I'm ready to miss Lubbock for a while.

I'll agree it's not the best, but it darn sure isn't the worst. I'd much rather be at the knees of the bible belt than the crotch (Amarillo). We've got a lot of dirt, but it's not dirty. You can't buy in town or go see nekkid women...all the more reason to have kids here. Some of the schools are great and some suck, but you can transfer your kid to any one of your choosing. Between Lubbock Christian University, Wayland Baptist, South Plains College, and Texas Tech there's plenty of educational opportunities. We rank extremely high in restaurants per capita in the nation, have 2 "big" movie theaters, 1 cheap one, and we still manage to have a "drive in" theater. Putt-putt, 3 bowling alleys, and a whole bunch of bars and clubs can make for any kind of decent date night. We've got all the same stores in our mall as anybody else does, and until the old man retired we even had a Bass Pro Shop.

My only complaints are that we don't have many "career" opportunities or hills. We've got a lot of sky, but you can only keep your head in the clouds for so long.

Huh no , no naked women?? where you live again??

I have been to several establishment that serves both of those thing on the edge of town, and if it hadn't been for the alcohol license revoke we whould have one in town.

And we use to have our own made here in town, which was good by the way, but tax problems is what i understand close that place!

well, I guess at least I won't have to go drag my half-drunken dad outta there anymore...

heh, funny story involving that place... my dad rides one of those Rascal mobility scooters, not just from a car and back mind you. All over town. It's rated to travel 25 miles on a charge and he does his best to drain it everyday. Anyhow, he'd been out that day and pulled into the brewery for a few s. Was rolling to the bathroom from his table and hit a fork a waitress had dropped in the aisle. It punctured his tire and the Slime I keep in his tires did it's best to fill the gash. By the time I got to the restaurant managers side, there was a huge green snot trail half way across the building, splatter stains on the walls, and that nasty rotten smell had permeated the place. Not being able to do anything about it himself, Dad just pulled back up to his table and ordered another --and had one waiting for me as well. Two poor little waitresses were picking the half-dried mess up with a dustpan and only managing to smear it everywhere.

I refused to let them pay for his meal, , and tire as the manager had offered. The sight of those poor folks trying to clean that crap up was bad enough.

Home Plate Diner on 50th
The Spoon
Back then, there was a college joint called Bash Riprock's right off University. Thursday night was Quad Night - the stuff of legends.
