And the moral of the story is.......

Dont swerve to miss an animal!!

Friday the 5th I was headed home to Ft Worth from Lubbock to see my parents and girlfriend who was headed to DFW to go to the UT-OU game. I was also planning on having a new bed we had bought and painted put on the Tundra (well my dad and I were going to put it on). I was doin fine until I saw an animal in the road (dont ask me what kind cause I really dont remember) and my first reaction was to swerve. That set off a major chain reaction, after I swerved I went to swerve back onto the road, overcorrected, and when I overcorrected the truck slid sideways into the end of a guardrail with the passenger side of the truck just behind the cab. That was a LOUD boom, and the last thing I really remember. After hitting the guardrail the truck spun part way around before rolling onto the drivers side then to the roof. After landing on the roof it slid for about 75 feet down the highway. As I said earlier I dont remember anything after hitting the guardrail. Then a passer-by pulled me outta the truck, and that is where I came to. They (the multiple passer-bys that stopped, there were 5 if I remember correctly) asked me if anyone else was with me, and I said no, just my dog. Apparently my dog, whom Im sure was scared as hell, ran away after stopping sliding. When they pulled me out of my truck they put me straight into the median into an ant bed. That was not fun because at this point they would not let me move for fear of back/neck injuries despite them pulling me out of my truck. So I ended up with about 100+ ant bites on my abdomen. The ambulance came and took me to the hospital and I ended up with a black eye from hitting the steering wheel (which was swollen shut until late the next day) and the ant bites. Also had some minor abrasions above the black eye. So heres some pics of the black eye at its worst (just after getting home from the hospital) and the wrecked Tundra.

Well after leaving the hospital that Friday night my parents went back and looked for my dog and then we did on that next day also. We didnt find him either time. The guy that owns the wrecking company that towed my truck lives near where I had my wreck and said he would drive by there on his way to and from work to see if he happened to see him for a couple weeks. He also gave out some flyers to people who lived near that area to see if they might have seen him or something. Either way we havent had any calls back about him, so Im missing my dog, poor thing was just about to be a year old. I keep waiting for my parents to call me and tell me they just got a call that someone found him.....

And now heres some pics of my new truck. I got more than I thought for my Tundra and then financed some of the new one so I could get what I wanted/needed. I knew I needed more truck this go round since Im towing horses around quite a bit these days. Found this truck and it was a great deal for the price. Heres the specs: 2004 Dodge 2500, extended cab, short bed, 5.7 Cummins diesel, auto transmmission, laramie package (leather interior, adjustable pedals, premium stereo, heated seats, Im sure there is more Im forgetting), 2wd, 124k miles (none of which have been towing as this truck was owned by a salesman at the dealership and he never towed a thing with it). Already ordered a Tekonsha P3 brake controller and am getting ready to order a B&W turnover ball gooseneck hitch. Hopefully Im getting the toolbox out of my Tundra back or else Ill be buying a new one of those also.

Oh ya, and the moral of the story, in case you didnt catch it the first time is DO NOT SWERVE TO MISS ANY KIND OF ANIMAL IN THE ROAD, ITS NOT WORTH RISKING YOUR LIFE!!!

Oh, and one more lesson for everyone, wear your seatbelt, I have no doubt in my mind it kept me from dying or being seriously injured in this accident

I been telling my kids that ever since they started asking about driving. I've seen this several times in the past. A animals life is not worth risking yours. I'm just glad your story had a better outcome than most, and I hope your dog is found safe and well.

And guys that wish they were girls.....

Automatic transmissions are gay.

Flipped up tow mirrors are the sagging pants of the truck world.

Everyone has a number and yours was not up, but pretty damn close!

Nice tow rig btw, I just installed the B&W GN hitch and the P3 in mine recently. You will love both of them.
