still think you should need a license to carry.....there are several people that I can think of that have no business carrying a gun.

exactly... i also think people should take the classes whether or not they intend to get a licsense and carry... you will be much more informed and will definately not think that anyone should be allowed to carry a firearm as long as it is visible

Quote:
4. It is well known that the requirement to conceal a handgun for the purpose of protecting self, friends, and family can be difficult especially in Texas with our extreme heat since a person will usually have to wear a jacket to properly conceal a handgun and to avoid "printing."
obviously the group that wrote this is uninformed and does not understand how easy it is to conceal an handgun.... have to wear a jacket...pphhhht

Quote:
5. The requirement to conceal a handgun can make it difficult to draw the weapon should the life of the carrier or the life of someone else be in danger.

6. A criminal will not open carry a weapon because he does not want to draw attention to himself. We believe that a citizen openly carrying a handgun lawfully will be a deterrent for crime.
no and...

it would be dumb to profile someone as criminal or not by whether they openly carry a gun or not

Quote:
7. Ten states including Arizona, Alaska, Idaho, Kentucky, Montana, New Mexico, South Dakota, Virginia, Vermont, and Wyoming all allow open carry of handguns without a license. Twelve states including Connecticut, Indiana, Iowa, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Utah, and Tennessee allow open carry of handguns with a license. In fact, Texas is one of only SIX states in the entire United States that completely bans open carry of handguns.

8. In these states, Open carry is very common and it does not alarm law enforcement or other citizens.
i still strongly believe you should possess a licsense to carry a firearm and did not see any legit reasons for them to "need" to be carried openly

8. is a nice one liner of b.s.... some people are alarmed by the sight of firearms and that's all there is to it

I dont believe I should have to have a license to carry. I didnt have to have one for the military. Why do you need a license to carry? Have you seen the way people drive "with a license"? A license doesnt make you a better driver.

I agree that the reasons written up in that petition are BS!!!

I signed it for 2 simple reasons:
1. It is a constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
2. I am against any laws that puts a decent good law-abiding citizen at a disadvantage to a criminal, especially in the preservation of his/her life , family or property.

Why are the guys who admit they have no "bidness" carring a gun worried about how the guys who are capable of handling going to carry it? And putting it down? If it's not for you, thanks for knowing right from wrong in that matter. Do you really think 99% of the robbers/ muggers/ car jackers etc. would do what they do if they see 2-10 people with guns on there side? "bad guys" are going to be armed no matter what, shouldn't we have a better way to make them think twice.

they trained you didn't they before giving you a gun and setting you free in the world... a licsense has requirements... it's not going to make anyone perfect by anymeans... but it checks em over and teaches basics

OH I dont actually beleive that this petition will lead to fixing or restoring anything. Unfortunately in this day and age the Govt only works to take the rights and powers of its citizens away, not grant or return any. Self-reliance, individual freedoms, property rights, and power to the people are unfortunately beliefs held by very few, not the once popular held belief of generations long since past.
I doubt you could find even a handful of elected officials who would even dare to even give you a definition of what they think is right or wrong or criminal or just.

You need to turn in your "MAN CARD" right now and move to Komieforina and be with the rest of the liberal hippy freaks!!! You will be happy there.

Every person should have the right to be "packing" conceled or not. (unless they are a convicted felon) There would be a whole lot less "trouble" started by those who think about starting it if they they knew there would be instant repercushions (sp?)

kiss my *** if you want to call me a commie liberal hippy freak... i'm far from it but apparently you want to spout off... have you taken the course??

take a one day course... last thing i want is everyone running down to walmart and grabbing a gun and carrying it around... it should be background checked, insuring responsible people, and ones that have a basic knowledge of current gun carrying laws... responsible people can afford and plan getting a licsense... i wish everyone was smart and responsible but as we know that is not the case... i'm all for licsensed carrying... i wish more people took the time to participate... but concealed is a priveledge and not a right... just like driving or anything else that should have some sorts of controls on it

I took the course when the concept of "conceled carry" was first brought about. (back in the mid 90's) The whole thing is a load of crap for yuppies and soccer moms that want to feel impowered. And another way for guberment to track and impose fees on firearm owners.

Point blank if you feel that you want or need to carry a firearm in public you should be able to! It doesn't mean that you must use it and be a vigalante but if the need arise's by all means use it.

I would have several concerns about an open carry law and the need for a license. First off...there needs to be some age limit, I don't want to see some 15 year old with a gun on the street. Yes I had a berretta 40 cal at the age of 15 and went to the range to shoot every weekend, but I don't think a 15 year old has the judgement to carry. Then there are the people that scare me because they can't hit the broad side of a barn. Most of us on here have been around guns and know how to use them...and know the difference between right and wrong, however the gerneral public scares the crap out of me.

The 2nd amendment gives us the right to bear arms. clear and plain. If I choose to arm myself I will.

There are those who think we need to be protected from ourselves because we are not intelligent enough to know right from wrong, and they have a very loud voice in congress. The Government is doing all it can to take away our rights each and everyday, Helmet laws, Gun Control, Seat Belts, etc are all examples of the individual rights we are losing everyday. I believe in choice, If I choose to not wear a seatbelt and get thrown from a car, I might be a dumbass, but it was my CHOICE to be one. that is just one example of the government protecting us from ourselves with the help of the Insurance industry. The list goes on and on. Agree or Disagree, it is your CHOICE, just like it is mine to wear my gun or not wear my gun.

This country was born and bred to be Free and many brave and honorable men and women have died protecting and defending those rights.

I would just like to see some sort of proficiency test to make sure that when a person pulls a gun they are going to hit there target and not someone else.

Maybe I was DIXLESIC and might be 2426.

Who is checking the criminals for a license? Or if they took a class? I also have taken the class and have a CCL but how much does that REALLY help? I agree it would be nice if everyone who carried a weapon knew the proper way and rsponsibilities of that choice but do you really think that is going to happen? Just like how many Unlicensed drivers are out there? But you should have a license and training right? Unlicense hunters, fishers, etc. It's not going to happen but that should NOT stop others.

The stinking government is infringing on my Bill of Rights. When I was a kid we all had guns in our cars at school. I might add that people left their keys in the car and did not lock their houses. It is time to take my freedoms back.

Talk is too darn cheap! No action speaks volumes.
