Positive thread about Barnwell!

I feel confident that when Gary gets back in town he is going to get everything straightened out. So lets see if we can come up with some good ideas on how we can help with peoples experience at the mountain. Seems like one of the hot topics lately is the 10pm rule. I understand it is for the sake of the surrounding nieghboors. After seeing the arieal shot posted up there are houses really close to some of the property lines.
Would it be practical to have different cutoff times on trails that are not close to houses. For example if you had one edge of the property that did not have nieghboors you could wheel in those areas or in the middle areas without disturbing. Maybe it could be something posted on the sighn at the trail head. Just a little sighn that would say 10pm or 12 whatever?
Just tring to get feedback to see if this would be something possible that could be brought up to the powers that be. I know that alot of people are like me and barely have enough time to see the family nevermind go to meetings 3 hours away. Maybe if Stacey or Hatch think it is a good idea they could bring it up in a meeting.
Please post up you feelings and ideas about what could help. Do not post up problems that you would like changed if you have not thought of a possible solution to present.

I don't think the powers that be are gonna see the difference between 10 and 12......they will just say "It is only 2 hours!" Now if we could wheel all night on those "inner" trails that would be awesome.

Hardline, they did try that the trails close to the front, but sometimes would pop up there anyway. I think Old Goat and some of you have a story about that. I think that sometimes people just live next to a noisy area. The place I just move from had a train track across the road and they came through at all hours of the night. Some people live close to freeways, and so on. I think they had a reason for the ten o'clock rule, but the reason they gave us on the trail was BS. And the part that is hard to swallow, is that I lost my midnight wheeling because of someone else was breaking the rules, and I know you feel the sameway. I guess we just need to play the game. If we want to wheel at night, we should go to places that allow it. In the winter it want be bad and we can go to Barnwell. In the summer, when the light is out longer we can go to other places.

I tell you right up front...I don't like closing the trails at midnite...and I really don't like it at 10.

There is no reason I can see that we couldn't have the interior trails on the east side of the mountain open til midnite...and on special occassions, under supervision to be open later. I'm hoping that the 10 curfes is for winter and they will go back to 12 in the summer.

Volunteer trail patols could help

How to work it.....
get a petition going with names and membership #s
get a list of trail patrol volunteers
request an orientation or Trail Patrol 101 class ...get all your volunteers to attend. That will get those who volunteer as patrol out on the trails at night. Then once you have the policing job under control as a group present the petition to the board.

We have convince the State and Feds that we(offroaders) police ourselves....it shouldn't be too hard to actually do it.

How about a killer rockgarden away from neighbors, possibly lit up at night? something where rigs could gather, people could hangout and wheel/watch..

I will definately volunteer for trail patrol.

BTW, whats the rule on morning wheeling? sun up?

I remember something about quiet time from 10 to 6 or 6:30....but that was back when the trails closed at 12.

If only everyone had been quiet when on the trails after 10

So let's get things rolling with the member trail patrol thing

I need a list of volunteer trail patrol...names, TMTC#, contact info.

I need to create a "Trail Patol 101 class"

what should a trail patrol do and not do....I know how I do it....I need more versions than mine to present something to the board

We have to have a complete workable system in writing to present to the board...along with volunteers and the date we want to have the class. The less work and thought they have to do to make this happen the easier it will be for us to make this happen.

I'll compile what I think needs to be covered in a class....ya'll do the same...and then post up

Ahhh, a plan. Lemme work on my 2 cents. I would "think" 10p to 6-7a would be correct thats about what the state parks use isn't it?

all night would be great on even just 4 or five trails. spyders ravine is a great, l&b saturday night live, and sunday cruise are off the beating path. or heck even just on set over by fun country and wennie world. that would be a blast to have 20 rigs lined up at 2 am to hit wennie worl ext. that would surely keep people at the back of the property, and designate "OLD CAMP" the late night camp site, because it is usually rowdy into the wee hours.

Those are some good ideas there. May be a little overkill on some things but none the less GREAT ideas and itS a heck of a start. So are we thinking of "overtaking" the current management or what here, that is what it sounds like to me, so correct if wrong. If they already have a plan in progress then use it, I am sure that they are not out there just winging it. I think the only real problem that people are having is the attitude that they present with, and the night wheeling.

Remember, "APPROACH DETERMINES RESPONSE!"

I do not think it would be an overtaking, Possible it could be a jiont effort by the management team and some of the wheelers. She did add Introduce yourself, and welcome them to the property. I think it sounds great. I would be willing to give it a try. How often would one need to be out? I would probably only be able to make it once a month at most. JJ

4 to 8 people once a month would be great. Remember we need trail patrol during the day as much as at nite.

No it wouldn't be an overtaking ....Clyde had folks that would help him....when they would check in they would ask what needed to be done...be it sign installment/repair..tour guide...or just Rove around and help when needed.

We the park/the users need that back

As far as a plan
Lawton for whatever reasons dosen't not have the user volunteer base that the former management did.
He was having a very hard time curtailing rule violations.
He and the Board hired his son to help patol.
The board is now looking for an alternative.
They would love for the members to volunteer and help.
They do not think you will do it.
They are talking about hiring offduty local Police.

I still think we can police ourselves.

And the only way to get something done ...is to just do it

"They are talking about hiring offduty local Police" you might as well keep lawton out there, i have met the local hazard county enforcement, the park will be closed within 2 yrs if you choose option b.at least with option a"lawton" the park has 3 years left.
