questions for TV guru's

I have a pioneer projection TV that was made in 1991. the convergence recently went out (8 months or more ago, that is recent) and instead of getting it fixed I am wondering about getting a new tv. my old one was a 50" I believe and would like to get a something similar. I am not a big tv watcher, I don't have cable or satellite. I watch Netflix every once in a while.
I would like to stay under 1000.
LCD or LED?
how many HDMI inputs do I actually need?
what is a good brand?

Most people can get away with 2 or 3 HDMI ports. I've got 4, which works out perfect for me. As far as brands go, after having owned one, I won't buy anything but a Sharp, personally. There are a lot of other good brands though. Samsung, etc.

Honestly, go to best buy, and check em out. See which one you like the picture on best. The whole LCD, LED, Plasma thing comes down a lot to personal preference. I like 4-color LED tvs.

Also, with a lot of newer tvs, you can hook them right up to your wifi, and they'll have a netflix app on the tv. So you won't have to hook up a computer or anything to it.

sony, samsung, sharp, all good tv brands. i use to play videogames a lot and i have an LED tv and i love it. most new tvs come with 3-4 hdmi outputs which is more than enough for anything normal people do.

vizio is hit or miss (thats what my tv is).

I agree with going to bestbuy and seeing what you like. Talk to someone there as they are generally pretty helpful. Walk in a knuckle dragging cave dweller...walk out g from the ears due to info overload. Happen to me once. I have a Samsung but as others have stated there are many good brands.

You cant go wrong nowadays, they are all great, its the brands you need to be aware of & also the features. Thr cheaper the tv the more basic options youll have for tv adjustment such as surround sound or adding speakers for example. No reason to steer clear of plasma as its a true picture, only thing is the screen can reflect light since its mirror polished. Around here you could find deals from college kids movi/g or trying to make rent.

I only have 8 channels. When my old Magnavox goes out...I just won't have a TV anymore.

My TV has outlasted 3 of the analog converter boxes though.

I remember when hd made its tv debut. Everything was so clear, the picture actually had depth to it. It made every show appear like a soapopera. Even my cathode ray tv at the time had a great picture, id watch hdnet fights all the time. Now, the picture available( ive seen nearly all tv types & tv services) is bot the same hd we(us all) started out with. Some of that quality is prob going to the next big thing "ultra" hi definition. Makes sense since the big tv companies can only drum up so many options/features in order to keep selling tv's. Thats my conspiracy rant LOL.

About a month ago I splurged for a 60" LG 3D LED.

After buying carpets, paints and floors for the new house, I figured it was "my turn". Don't use the 3D feature, but have watched more movies and (HD) TV programs than I ever have.
The large TV's at wally world were a big improvement over the decade old tv s I had, but after reading the specs, best buy got my buisness. For just a bit more money, a far better TV can be had.

As for LED vs. Plasma.... my wife likes the looks of plasma better, I liked the LED better.
Guess who chose carpets and paints? Wasn't me, so again the picture was as simple as "that one looks best".
