Shipping Nightmares

Is it me or is it hard to find a quality shipping company?? This all started when my Dad bought a brand new 383 L98 long block. When he received the motor, the shipping company had somehow put some deep scratches on the intake port surface but on the head. Took 4 months to get anything out of them. 2. I bought an orbital valve from a member and received it in a package that hardly looked like a box anymore. The valve was hanging out of the package. Nothing was damaged, so i let it go. 3. My dad purchased yet another stroked LS1 shortblock. When it got here, it somehow had been dragged across the deck resulting in a block needing to be redecked and 3 pistons milled down. $3000 worth of damage. UPS paid $2900 3 months later. And the most current problem... I bought an Optispark (ignition system for LT1) brand new in box for $250. I received it yesterday in a torn up box. It also has a spark wire port broken off of it. I filed a claim and they told me it could take up to 3 months to compensate IF they find they are at fault. I cant wait 3months to get my car back on the road. Has anyone else had this prob? Am i doing somethin wrong????

man that sucks. so far i haven't anything as serious happen to me as your situation. I had a package delivered where the box wasn't a box anymore but nothing was damaged. The only thing I can advise is too keep nagging (for lack of a better term) them until they pay up. I think the 3 months thing is so that you can give up on trying to blame them. OF COURSE THEY'RE TO BLAME...in most cases.

about a year ago I sold some wheels to river rat, when I shipped them they lost 2 of them. took forever to get paid back. I own an auto glass shop, 99% of my glass is delivered by my wholesaler but their are a few items that have to be shipped in, and they always come in broke. I've been waiting 3 weeks for a corvette doorglass. Finally got one in yesterday that wasn't damaged. They broke the first one they sent

it sounds to me like you are doing nothing wrong, the shippers are not packaging items properly. i see it quite a bit in my line of work.

Just chiming in here to mention that both DHL and USPS are sucking mightily at the shipping business. DHL has my package sitting in its Houston facility but it isn't sheduled to be delivered until "before 12/17". I say, "I'll come pick it up." Well, sir, we'll have to call you and tell you when it's ready to pick up.

Huh?

USPS has just flat lost a shipment from a different vendor from 8 days ago. The USPS tracking number is useless - status never updated. The vendor is shipping a second shipment to me (good on them) via USPS. I'm not laying any odds on it at this point...

When i ordered my V-treads and rims, the shipping company wouldnt even bring them to my house because they said couldnt get the big rig in the drive-way, yet i can get a 40ft. float down it fairly easy. I went and picked them up.............

I have had many of the same problems with UPS and DHL. I have started using Greyhound bus lines for quite a bit of shipping. So far i have been happy but you have to drop off at a station and pick up at a station and they do have a size and weight limit. For heavy stuff i never use UPS. You had an engine shipped through them? i have used other freight lines for that and been happy

DHL has had my shipment since 12/7/07 and yesterday was the frist attempt they made for a delivery and I wasn't home to sign for it, so they didn't leave it on my front porch.
