Street legality questions

Well its time to make my Heep street legal and I am trying to figure out what all I need to be street legal in my 93 wrangler yj on 1 tons and 38.5s. I have no windshield at the moment and was wondering about that. Wipers? What about lights do they have to be factory equipment or can they be aftermarket (headlights specifically). Do I need to figure out an ebrake? Any problems with the tires sticking out past the fenders or having no fenders? I figured some of you might know and since we Are in Texas it should be the same all over. Thanks in advance--------------Kyle

street legal

I went through that a couple years ago on my YJ. E-Brake is a must. There is no requirement about fenders or fender flares as long as the tires pass inspection. If the vehicle came equipped with windshield then it has to have one w/ functional wipers. If it had a cat then it needs that too. No specs on lights as long as you have headlights, blinkers, tail, brake, back-up & license plate lights. Horn of course.

Where they got me was the cat & muffler leaks & gas cap which has to hold pressure. Also must have at least 1 rearview mirror on windshield or drivers side.

i agree with buck and would like to add that your lights must be d.o.t. approved. but disagree on the windshield, you only need wipers no windshield.

you can not run a forklift tank, and you would technically have to pay a propane tax with minimum mileage of 5k a year wich cost about $40. im taking my chances with that one and not paying the tax since mine see's the street about once enery 3 months and most cops are not aware of propane. ive had many cops follow me when driving on the street and have yet to be pulled over.

Shoot, I drive mine about every weekend. Not all places look as close as others when it comes to inspection. My rig stands out like a sore thumb. Never been pulled over. Local cops probably don't know what is required anyway.
Backup lights are not required.

This is mine-------------I need to figure out how to put the headlight back in. The new radiator is so big that the headlight had to be taken out. That is why I asked about headlights. As for the propane thing I was under the impression that a forklift tank is D.O.T certified so better to run. I will probably run it anyways as nobody down here knows anything about propane. I will tell them its my fuel cell lol

The big green one of course

A small thing, but back-up lights are not required.

ive always heard you dont have to have a windsheild as long as the wiper motors are not there anymore. I know Russ Bear (Beartrax) dont have a windsheild and just has a lil piece of plexy glass with his stickers on in where they would go on a regular windshield
