Texas Vacation Spots

Something along the lines of FourWheelerJeff's thread, my sister & I are planning a trip for my mom's 60th bday. I was just hoping to get some ideas of some really sweet spots to take her. The trip will include my sister's and my kids, so it has stay semi-family oriented . Some places we're considering are:

Port Aransas
Fredricksberg
Schlitterbahn

So shoot me some more ideas...as of right now, we're thinking it'll be a 3-4 day trip...

San Antonio has Sea World, Six Flags, River Walk, Alamo, and more. lots of stuff to do here and lots of good restaurants to eat at. then you have Fredricksburg apprx 1.5 to 2 hrs away, or Schitterbahn in New Braunfels..

Take her to the riverwalk in downtown SA. I want to go back without the kids and hangout, there is plenty of entertainment on Friday and Sat. night. Lot of bars and some live music.

Fredericksburg is nice. Lots of girly type shops for the women and a couple of decent places to drink . We go down there pretty regularly and have made Octoberfest the past 4 years with about 20 of my family members from the N Texas area.

Weirach Farm Guest House is a nice place if you need to put the family up - can sleep 8-10 if you don't mind squeezing a bit. Call Bob Borchers(owner) at 830-nine nine sevin - 4684. Peach Tree in is alright if you're on a budget. Kind of old school, restored hotel right near main street.

Gesthaus Schmidt reservation service has a bunch of nice places if you're looking for a romantic place for some honeymoonin. Lots of cool little wineries around the area, some have live music and grub on the weekend.

One place I want to go (I think its on the riverwalk) is Dick's. All the wait staff is 'rude' and its a good time, from what I've been told. The shows at Seaworld and Six Flags are pretty good, too.

Schlitterbahn is a must do.
i think it really takes two days to take it all in.

sea world & fiesta texas would also be a hit w/ the kids

as far as fredericksburg i dont know i would like take my boy there.
is for more grown ups.(i think)

what is there to do for the kidos?
i want to know also?

for 72blazer.
is port isabel cleaner then port aransas? does Port A have a schlitterbahn?
since you live closer to there.

Good people, too. My truck broke down one Sunday when my wife and I were there and the little lady that keeps the place up taxi'd us around and even offered to let us use her pickup while mine was in the shop.

For little boys I'd say the Nimitz and George Bush war museums would be pretty cool. Also, its pretty close to Enchanted Rock. Other than that, lots of girly things. I've got three girls, so I pay more attention to that type stuff.

What's enchanted rock?

Port Isabel is a nice clean town. Stays busy because of SPI. I've never been to Port A, so I can't really compare...

If you want to venture a little off of the Riverwalk, depending on the age of the kids, there is the Childrens Museum or venture a little more and there is the Childrens Theatre - the plays are long enough to be fun but not so long that they get bored and the price is reasonable

We like to spend the day at the wineries then go to Luckenbach for the late aftn/evening/night. Then we go to Hondo's in Fburg for late night burgers n more , then to the bed-n-bkfst.

Looks like the wife and I are going to San Antonio this Mon.
Staying in New Braunfels Mon - Wed night.
Going to Schlitterbahn Tue.
Wed may go to Natural Bridge Caverns, who knows from there.

Wish we had the money to go down to South Padre for a week.

South Padre's the one that has a Schlitterbahn. Port A's not too bad. Lots of cool little shops in town, and you can actually drive on the beach unlike SP. Plus, you'll be driving through Corpus and you could go to the Aquarena, the USS Lexington (which would be definitely be a little boy thing, not too sure how well it'd go over for the girls), check out the 3 story Joe's Crab Shack on the water, and all that good stuff before you get to Port A.

You can't drive on the beaches of South Padre? Holy crap I better go tell the hundreds of people that do it everyday...lol. The beach has a public road. The dunes on the other hand are a BIG NO NO.

Looks like it might just be the riverwalk n fredricksberg.
