That's not gonna be cheap...

My youngest daughter has always been more mechanical than the other older kids. She's hung out with me in the shop. She welds, she uses the plasma cutter, she can change the differential oil by herself, and she's fond of telling the guys at the oil change place (because I'm lazy that way) that they're not doing it right.

She's also been with me a lot when the trucks break down, or are being repaired. For a 7 year old, she knows a helluva lot about cars.

So, last night we're driving home, towing the boat, from the place in Brownwood when a truck came up on us with his brights on. I slowed down a couple times to get them to go around us, with no luck. Finally, I eased over onto the shoulder across the rumble strips and the truck got the hint.

Out of the back seat I hear, "That's not going to be cheap..."

Not sure what she was talking about, I asked her, "What?"

Her reply: "Whatever part's making that noise doesn't sound like it's going to be cheap to fix tomorrow!"

Sounds like what my little girl well be in a couple years. At 21months she already help'n me change the oil. Well she climbs under and watchs. Last time i did my brakes, like a mont ago. She watched and played with the lugnuts. Hell she amost had all 8 of them screwed back on.
And she's not even 2 years old yet.

I need to get her a dickies jump suit. Mom get pissed everytime we had out into the garge. It looks like she's just got done doing a motor swap. From head to toe.

Congrats guys on enjoying time with your daughters. I have been building K5's and race vehicles and working on trucks forever. When my girls were young they would be doing the same things as yours. The problem is when they hit 11-13, they have other things in mind. IE boys, friends, going to the mall etc. Enjoy it now. I can't get my 14 year old to even hang out with me anymore. She's too busy texting, hanging out with friends, going to the mall, going shopping etc. Remember the good times guys.

I get the impression my 17 yr old wouldn't piss on me if I was on fire. I was cool when she was little, but for some reason 'puberty and Dad' just can't seem to get along.

No cell phone, no gas money, no 'spensive clothes and a trip to good will next time she asks for something. When she gets there and says she's not buying anything from there, tell her, 'No, you're not buying anything here, you're getting a job here.'

(I have no kids to call my own, so take what I say for what it's worth.)

My oldest girl is a different story--

I passed through the kitchen today and she just happened to be in there. I ask, "Whatcha doin?" and get back,

"I'm fixing myself a sandwich. Do you have a problem with it?!?"

"Uhh.... nope," and just kept on going.

I'm sure the younger one will be just as bad some day, but I'm doing everything in my power to keep it from happening.
