thinking about a new (new to me) tow rig; so would you go with cummins, duramax or powerstroke and why?

duramax always got me there and back home.

Whatever floats your boat.

Out of the three new 2014s I've driven, I was most surprised by the F250 6.7. That thig was badass. Then again so was the 2014 Denali.

In this order-

Cummins- powerful, familiarity, easier to work on than the V8's, dependable, solid axle, but a shotty trans (assuming automatic)

Duramax- powerful, easier to work on than a f*rd, softer ride for old aching bones, reliable transmission, but the ifs can be problematic depending on how rough you are, there are different models with different issues (06-07 classic are te best)

Power stroke- only if it has a cummins instead... Haha

That's my $0.02 anyways...

We have a 2011 f350 with the 6.7 with 100k on it at work and that thing just plain gets it. I would definitely own one even though you can't see the engine when you pop the hood.

But I was assuming he was referring to used trucks, if you referring to new trucks too I'd definitely consider the ford with the 6.7.

If I were to buy new, I'd probably go with a Chevy with a gasser. Diesels just aren't worth it anymore with the emissions.

my 06 cummins is an excellent tow rig and it strokes my ego when i drive it. decent fuel mileage for what it is and i will never feel undertrucked with it. will do anything i need it to.
seats are my biggest complaint, but it takes a few hours for me to get bothered by them.

Nortexfoam just gettin started
I've owned all three and the 6.7 powerstroke is my favorite. My dodges and duramaxes were all chipped/exhaust/cold air/ect.... My 12 powerstroke will pull, or out pull, with any of them bone stock. And it's no comparison when it comes to ride and noise. I pull every day for my business and I'm very happy with the ford.

This has my vote. Like the cummins but the Dodge seats are not that comfortable and the cabs are small. Ford to me are just the opposite.

I'm on my second 7.3 (01/99) and I love these Trucks. My 6 speed is a whole different animal when it comes to towing, I couldn't hardly feel my trailer back there!

2000 f250 7.3 6spd 2wd 210k edge juice w/att intake exhaust, tow a fifthwheel, it is a comfortable tow, I do have airbags in back, best mpg I ever saw was 24mpg, averages 19mpg empty, 11 towing the 5th. Best truck I've ever owned, changed a waterpump & alt, that's it.
