what y'all think about a F350 Dually, Gas

My good Neighbor is selling a 1990 Ford F350. It has 43,000 miles on it, and the interior looks great. The truck was used in Arizona for fueling vehicles to aid in forest fires. So it had very low mileage. The outside is faded a bit, it doesn't look to bad. I'm not sure on the motor, but I think it's a 460, with a auto. My question is it worth 3,500? What kind of gas would I expect? He said it gets around 18 on the highway. I could not believe it. I plan to tow my Jeep with it. I imagine that it would do fine for this purpose.

I don't see how it could get 18, my 2000 gmc 2500 with a 6.0 gets 15 at best. My 95 1500 with a 4.3 gets 17-19.

If the truck is in good condition the price is probably ok. There's no way that MPG can be right though. I would expect 12 or 13, MAYBE 15 at best.

That's what I thought too. The Gas just don't seem right.
He said because of the size of the motor and the torque gives the truck good gas with the overdrive. The outside of faded a bit in the paint, but the inside is near perfect. Even the dash looks new.

that's a decent price for the truck and it doesn't have very much in the ways of mileage on it... is it crew cab?? ...4x4?? i don't think i'd fork out the full 3500 for a 90... but still at that price you could sell it if you didn't want it and not loose money... i picked up a 93 xlt 7.3 diesel extended cab f250 srw with interior near perfect and exterior in pretty darn good shape minus a few dings for that price... but have yet to come across another in decent condition in that price range

Not a bad price and it would be a great tow rig for your jeep. I would not bet on that fuel mileage though. I have driven several fords, in different variations, and have not gotten 18 in any of them. 15 to 16 has always been the average. My brand new 6.4 diesel f-350 only gets 12mpg.

I say get it.. I love my diesel, but with diesel being about 50 cents higher per gallon, you can actually absorb a little lower mileage with the gas engine and the 460 has plenty of power to pull a load, and the duals will help a lot..

I would stay away from a 460. The last one I had got aweful mileage. Pony up and get you a older 12 valve Cummins for a few bones more and forget about it. I dont care what diesel gets up to I will never go back to a gas for a tow rig. Just my $.02.

Expect 9 or 10 when towing.

Our 2001 F350 4x4 has the 6.8L V10 and a diesel will outpull it anyday. When towing, I run in overdrive as much as possible and get 10mpg on the best day. Only 8 or 9 if the camper is on the trailer.
