#$%^!#....one of those dang days!!!We
Took off work a little early today and my wife gave me some shop time. I got myself some Ni55 rods at TSC to weld my diff. tubes and then planned on finishing all my brackets and doing some pan work for protection.
Start off with my crackerbox ![]() Start welding my diff and find that Ni55 is not easy to weld with at all. I am a decent stick ![]() Start MIG welding and my machine keeps tripping off the wire feed. Change liner...same dang thing. Another 1/2 hour wasted. So, I am trying to stick my stuff together an inch at a time which is a major PITA!!! Wasted alot more time. Went out to finish welding and to the pan tonight. Got the pan protected with 1/4" plate and reinforced the bottom lip to try to keep it from peeling....except the @$#@[email protected] diff is upside down and I did the top lip. Tossed the tools in the floor and came in the house. Hope tomorrow goes better. Hoping to finish todays projects and get my drive shaft assembly shortened on one shaft and lengthened on the other. Wish me luck. ![]()

AT least you tossed the tools to the floor, I would have tossed em across the street.

I agree with SMALLS, if a tool don't work I usually chunk this **** out of it so it doesn't work again. Have a BEER and some family time, try again another day!

I had been up since 3am so I did not have the energy to pick up that heavy
![]() ![]() Gonna give it another go today and see if I can knock out some punch list items. I made a to-do list and came up with about 20 hours to get it back together. I figure double that and add 5 the way it's going now. Ready to get it back together so I can tear something else up. ![]()

Sorry the day didnt go smooth. Your story reminded me of a day a couple of summers ago....
I was trying to finish a job and nothing was going as planned. It had to have been a hundred and eleventeen degrees with no breeze. My ratchet busted my knuckles at just the wrong time and I threw a temper tantrum the tasmanian devil would have been jealous of... I spun like i was throwing a discus for olympic gold and let the ratchet fly. Some 30 or 45 min later, the farmer I was working for pulled up and took a walk out into his crop......not only did he find my ratchet I had desposed of,he brought it back to me with a comment something like "looks like someone wanted to loose this"?? It took all my will power to keep from throwing it a second time. ![]()

Actually, I did hit it with an oxyacetylene torch before I welded it for 30 seconds to a minute right around the weld area. I did not, however, heat the entire pumpkin. I had read of alot of guys welding stone cold with nickel rods on d60's, so i dont know. The rods would also get cherry red and come apart if i went too long without stopping.

I cleaned it with a wire brush, used a torch to burn out any thing on the surface and to char the rest of the paint, and then cleaned again with a wire brush. Then I hit it a second time with a torch to preheat a little more. I think I am going to try to find some 3/16 Ni-55 rods and go at it again. For right now it is sufficient, but I will grind it out and redo it when I get time. I dont really think my light weight rig on 40's is gonna spin a tube anyway, but now that I uglyed it up I am gonna have to fix it. However, I will have to hang my head in shadow of shame from ugly tube welds on the trails for the rest of this year cause I am tired of fabbing and ready to wheel! ![]()

I used my laser thermometer to read the temp on my housing. I heated to 700 deg. With my oxy/acet torch about 2 inches over where I was welding. I used my miller wire feed with 70s wire and threw down a nice bead. No fuss. No tink tink or cracking after cool. I let it cool with no fans or airflow for a day. Then painted.
Am I required to pay and post an avitar before I can share this info?
