Just to let you all know I saw a Ford 14FF 8 lug on a white 89 x cab and two cheby 14FF 8 lug. They two chebys are side by side..on the cheby one had bigger drums then the other..one truck and one sub.
I dont know much about 14ff I do know it has the bolts in the middle that holds the shafts in...as I have seen 8 lugs that kind of look like a 6 lug with no bolts in the middle i figure that was a 14 SF.
one 10 bolt kingpin front missing one side dont recall driver or pass,,side drop and one ball joint 10 bolt stripped but the knockles are still on it.
Mike
that was today 08/03/06
on the ford I can really say 14 bolt other then the 8 lugs and the center bolts in the middle I saw it from a distance and the king pin is that pin that holds to two sides and I know what a ball joint looks like and well....that is what the other one look like.
Mike
The ford was on a x cab white on the right ford section about three rolls from the back on the inside...if you walk down the road you can't miss it.
Mike
I think that one had 8 lugs on it...one side was missing the shaft but the disc was siting on the floor next to it.
Don't make fun of a person that don't know much,,,I just wanted to pass on what I saw.

I'm a joker at heart. Just after reading what I posted and everyone their after. Yeah, you can say I don't know what I was talking about.....just assuming that the ford was a 14 because of the bolts on the side that tells me that the axles were FF. I didn't look under it. As for the ten bolts front, Seriously, I looked at both and one had ball joints and the other king pins that look like my Yokomo R/C on road car that uses king pins.
Anyway, it's all good. I can look back on this thread and see how green I was.

well a little to late now. Just so that I know....what is the purpose for the diff cover? I'm guessing to tell the difference between certain kinds.
Anyway, If I do go back. I think I will be getting a IFS rearend (wider). ANd While I have the diff out...get it welded up.
Mike
The axle can be identified by the shape of the cover (10B, 12B, 14B, D44, D60). The axle bolts you referred to will show you if it is a full floater or not. Also, just knowing the year and type of chassis (SRW or DRW) one could determine the factory installed axle. Sometimes there is still a tag under one of the cover bolts that has the ratio stamped on it.
