16.5 beadlocks?

I am working on a new project, hope to have a build thread soon, I am running 21/49/16.5 Iroks on front and rear steer rocks, I have already bought a set of wheel centers from Copperhead (very nice) and I have a set of 16.5x10" steel wheels. What I am wondering is, I have been told not to run single beadlocks on 16.5" wheels, and I've also been told it was fine??? Anyway, what is you guy's opinion on this, and what are yall running??? Thanks

generally speaking, the bead seat and lack of a safety bead mean you gotta double-beadlock a 16.5 a'la H1's

By the time you cut the center out of that nice 16.5 you have, then get a beadlock kit, you can buy a set of H1s an a pvc or steel center and be money, labor and time ahead.

If you beadlock, I don't see why you wouldn't want both beads. I understand that the outer bead seems to take the most beating, but if you are going through the trouble, take the time to do it right.

H1's AND H2's are way to skinny for 49's. I would just put on a inner and out dyi beadlock kit on each rim. Or you'll have to run alot of air in them. @least 10+psi.

A old muddin trick ive seen.. Ive seen guy weld a small bead around the inside of the rim on 16.5s to make a safety beads them.

My 42/14.5/16.5 irocks are to wide for my h1's. The rim turn inside the tires and they lean over real but with low air.

What kind of brakes would you run with inner DIY beadlocks on a 16.5?

There are folks who widen the double beadlocks, and here is a DIY approach by a local.

Personally, I'd have no problem with 1450's on H1s...

I've looked into the H1 route, but have been told that they would be way to skinny for 21" wide tires, one way I've heard is to get 2 sets of H1s, 12bolts I think, and use the two longer sides of the wheels to make one and then make inserts out of pvc, but I havent had any luck finding the 12 bolts... much less two sets. So thats why I am asking about other options. I will be running pinion brakes on both ends. thanks

So, your H1's dont have inserts? That's the only way the wheel would turn inside the tire. I have had no problems running 42" Iroks on my H1 wheels with cutdown run flats and I only run between 1 and 2 psi front and rear. If your wheels are spinning inside the wheel, there is something wrong with your set up.

That's what everyone told me about my 44" Boggers on a H1 rim. They said it would never work so I did it just to prove them wrong. I've been running a 19.5 wide tire on a stock Hummer rim and have had zero problems in 4 years of wheelin it. I do have a little more side wall roll than I would like but I've learned to deal with it.

One a side note, A 49" Irock would look funny on a stock H1 rim and you would have way more side wall roll than I do with the boggers. You could widen the rims or just run double DIY beadlocks.

Take a look at Stazworks. There plain jane rims are not that costly, and they will make any rim width or size you need.

Way too many people out there running 39.5/18 all the way up to 44/19.5 to say H1's are too narrow. I'd put 49's on em in a heartbeat. I saw one of the shops does the widening like Big4x4 was talking about. I'd do that if the width is what's bothering you.
