Any ideas on Mini-buggies??

I saw a thread on Pirate the other day and thought it was cool. It was talking about building a mini buggy. I think it was more toward 4 wheeler size, but I was thinking about like a 2 seater Samurai type size. I figured you could build it fairly cheap and use a 4 banger, lincoln locked yota axles, maybe even yota tranny/tcase with some 35's. What do you guys think? Is there a company that already makes the chassis? I guess it would basically be about like the little one seaters you see on ARCA and stuff but w/out the high dollar suspension coilovers they use. Thinking LOWBUCK here! Anyideas here?

If you are looking for a light weight mini buggy. may not be cheap but if you took a Honda engine turned it sideways bam instant 4wd. Then hook them up to some low geared yotas and your done.

Ow wait thats how the comp guys already do it. lol

I want it to be bigger than a motorcycle/4 wheeler powered rig. I was thinking 1.6L tracker, 22R, etc. Anybody got any pics of anything like this? I guess this should not be called a mini buggy, but is really just a buggy. The reason I said that is because most of the "bigger" buggies have Ramjet 350/700R4/Atlas/60's.

uh, sounds like you want my rig. 22R, yoat axles, LLocked, dual cases, 2 seater,35s, tube buggy. Its a bit larger than a 4wheeler though!

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe sammy axles..I saw an old 'military sammy' back in CO that had a 2 or 3 cyl. engine and fit in the back of the guys PU. He found it at the pullNsave in Denver.

found this..

Yeah, basically Fishy. I was thinking something of that nature. I just want light weight, and small, so it could fit on any little trailer and not have to be extra wide.

I used to have a friend that had a little 60's vintage CJ-5 or whatever they were back then w/31 x 13.50 boggers and that sucker would go anywhere in the mud.

I was also thinking Yota pu, with the frame chopped right behind the seats and then tubed back upward and narrowed (kind of like the back end is a stinger and has room for icechest and some sort of tool box) Then to front tubed and cage. The inside would just be shifters (3 hopefully), tach, oil pressure, water temp, volt meter, start switch, and two seats. Link it in the rear at least and maybe keep the front leafs. Would definetly be bigger than a 4 wheeler. Run at the most 35's.

that pic is from http://www.desertfab.com. one of their "mini-monsters".

Maybe to keep it narrow, try 1 seat in the front, and 1 in the back? After gettin the engine/gearing down, the rest would be simple.
