Question Anyone here tig weld?

My step mom won a Lincoln Electric tig and it does nothing but get into the way. I was wondering if there were any pros/cons to using a tig that yall know of. I usually mig weld stuff and am pretty good at it. Figured if i had the other kind of i might give it a shot.

I like tig welding better. Seems to take longer but you have alot more control. Wish I had one.

I use the one @ work regularly.
If you want to learn to weld better across the board, TIG is the best, most frustrating way to become humble...
I love it, yet loathe it!

There are variables
Material composition (aluminum/alloy)
Material thickness
Penetration requirements

Tungsten size depends on amperage, tungsten (purity) color, depends on material welded (green for aluminum)
Gas flow varies for every variable
Cleaning is very very very important, any contaminant will cause major problems

A/C is for alum/alloys
D/C is for steel

Cup size for gas flow
Gas lens for gas flow stabilization

I love the control you have with tig but it can be a pain to do all the prep work. You'll go through a lot of tungsten when you're first learning...

I love messing with it. It is damn sure aggravating when you are teaching yourself. Definitely worth learning though. Like everyone has said make sure everything is clean or you will just cause problems for yourself.

Just found out that my little brother has had a very minimal amount of tig welding experience so maybe we can take a crack at this. Ive already got the Argon. Just need some rod and some time now.
