We have run hydroboost on our rigs forever, what i want to know is, how well does the duel Wilwood masters stop 43 in tires with disk all the way around, i'm going to try to use a remote hydroboost. rig should weight around 4k give or take, with auto trans 302.......any input will help.. L

What is it about hydroboost you are not happy with?

Love hydroboost, will throw you over the dash, but no room, i'm afraid if i flex it to the max and cut the wheel it will hit the master cylinder. The other option is to run a single wilwood master to activate a remote clutch slave attached to the hydroboost, then i could mount it anywhere, but to save time i'm asking about the duels...they make them but way pricey and i think this will be a patent for Dott if i can figure it out and have him work it.. we'll split the profit of course....:-)...L

Looks like i will be pursuing the remote hydroboost mock up, seems the manual brakes are less than stellar for what we are going to be doing with the rig. Any input or ideas?
Will start on it tomorrow, the brakes and dash seem to be the biggest obstacles on this build for me, that and time......L

Can you put the hydro between the dash and firewall with just the master in the engine bay?

That would good but i want the hydraulic lines outside the cabin area, there will be a perfect spot between the radiator and the crank pulley. This is what the idea is, just different execution, aka it won't be that perdy...L

Landis,
Fred and I both run that set up and in low-low gear, we do have to stand on the brakes at times as it wants to push through them.

However, in reasonable gear, it works pretty good and having the front/rear option can be cool as well as the redundancy of two separate brake systems.

Once I get my rig back to life, I think I'm going to experiment with different master cylinder sizes. Saw some stuff on Pirate on the small cylinders actually having more pressure and stopping power. We'll see.

Fred and i talked that over, the volume over pressure debate, i'm going to try my hand at fabbing up this remote hydroboost. So far it will cost me $20 for the slave cylinder and the old hydroboost that cost me 20 bucks. I gotta try even if it's a big fail, but if it works maybe I can help someone else with the same problem,
I won't need cutting brakes, I'll have line locks and twin stick.
Forgot to mention i'm running ford duel pistons up front and chevy 3/4 ton single piston out back........L

Yeah for $20 and some time, it's worth a go. The volume vs pressure is exactly what I was referring to. Both sides of the conversation have merit and the master cylinders are cheap enough to try it on at least the front. Let you know how it goes

$20.00 is cheep I think what your doing will work. Just thought I'd chime in on 2 ways around your problem that haven't bin addressed.

Speedway has both of these.

This is for the older street rods 30's mostly puts the master on the frame under the floor.

I just installed one of these in a 37 chevy it was kinda a pain but the boster and master are under the dash not on the fire wall.

Wow, the last one would work fine. Never seen that one before, the other ones would not work under, the exhaust and driveshaft takes that space, i would like to keep the hydraulic lines out of the cab if possible but it is a good alternitive.
RVREDDOG is this the setup you were talking about? I couldn't figgure that out until I saw the diagram, you can see in the pic there is no room under the floor. And i havn't built the dash yet, it will have tilt steering with the orbital moved down out of the way.

guess if it came down to it, you could just build a box to contain the heat and any fluid if a hose popped off. You see some of the race buggies with the orbital right between the drivers legs. I try to buy the nicest stuff available but I'm not that confident in my components.

if you can't get the hydroboost to mount how you want and work just go full manual brakes. i ran a single 1" wildwood m/c for my disc/drum setup and it locked down my 42" no issues. granted my rig weights 1300 lbs lighter than your target weight. dual wilwood master's get it done just fine. i'll never ever run power brakes in tube chassis

I got this thing figured out and ready to put together, alot easier than i thought, i have a 1 in wilwoood with a 7 in pedal..but having the hydroboost will eliminate any doubt, i know you've seen Sally drive. I'll let you decide if we need it....so far this has cost me 20 bucks, Lee Novikof donated the Wilwood master, as soon as the affects of these drugs wear off I'll get out there and mount it up..few more days max......L
