(BRT) Baja racing Texas and KOH Q's

Has anyone ever ran the 4400 class? or participated in KOH? I am thinking of building my YJ into a full blown 4400 racer, and still enjoy rec. wheeling. I really want to run KOH but don't think I would enjoy it with-out a tube chassis, but I am not sure if there is anyone even racing KOH with a jeep frame in the unlimited class. It seems to be all the rock crawler shops like Campbell running unlimited. But hell what do I know. All this stuff is new to me, and I want to do something exciting, and competitive What have you guys seen? Any experience with this stuff?

I know there is alot of information to learn, research, and the safety is strict. I can get past that;
I just wonder if I should just invest in a tube chassis and go from there. Or just use what I have already have and build around it and strengthen it and spend that extra cash on good parts
I have most of my parts needed already, just would need bypasses and some random stuff, which I know adds up quick. I know there is quite a few questions here, just thinking out loud

Thanks for any replies.

Yeah I was thinking that. I already have a 383 stroker with fuel injection, but its a 5.7 cast block, with aluminum heads. Strong motor, but not the same as a LS motor which darn near all of them are running now a days(I guess weight and power is the only reason).
The trans will be a built th400 and Atlas T-case
Dana 60 front Dana 70 rear full truss on both from Artec.
2.5 FOA coilovers and bypasses. I know alot of people give FOA alot of crap, but it's not a bad setup, and seem preety good quality and so far I have heard of any failures at KOH; but I have not really been looking either

Thanks for the reply

tube chassis with alot of motor is good but the guys at Marlin Crawler run KOH with a 4cyl. and are very competetive with the guys running V8's. no dont get me wrong there are alot of guys with very deep pockets and rigs that reflect that. i was there at KOH 2010 and seemed to me that the guys that were able to keep their head in the game and drive it to the edge of sanity were the ones that came out ahead.

Look at Cody Addington. Yes he did finish after the time cut off but he completed KOH 2012 in a 1980 Toyota pickup. No gps no pumper no radio. Patience and being smart enough to know when to use the winch is the key to completing the race. If you make it there I will be in a KOH Staff shirt stop and say hi.

I don't think I will even go the tube chassis route. I am just gonna build around my frame and back half it, and such. I don't have deep pockets, but my budget will be around $15000. I already got most of what I need. Drivetrain, and axles and such. Man that ***** sounds like so much fun. I am really looking forward to it. There will be a build thread in the near months on here.

Now that is cool, I imagine not on toy 8's though I bet. Sounds like a underdog story. I do want to get GPS pumper and radio though. There is quite a few races here in texas that require it. It won't be till 2014 KOH though.
Question for you, where do you qualify for KOH. how does it work?

Thanks

Mike

Qualifying come through finishing high enough in one of the other races to gain your spot. There is also the LCQ which gives at least 10 people a chance to race in KOH. There is also the everyman challenge and the winner of it gets an entry. If you were wanting to race KOH 2013 pretty much only chance to get in now is going to be LCQ or EMC.

I was under the impression that every man challenge is more for the stock to modified vehicles. I don't think I would be able to compete given my Jeep will be far from it. So all I got to to do is qualify in the regionals and I'm in?
Thats not to bad. Regionals for the south is held in Texas; at least this year it is. So I have at least 2 chances to get in the big one.

That is cool. I am all stoked about doing this. When I post up my build I will need everybodys help here though. That will be my first time doing a build that big.

Thanks guys

Thanks I checked it out, I won't qualify for stock... Tub all hacked up already, and on Coilovers, it's a YJ. Modified stock might be a possibility, but I would need to change my MOD plans.
