Cheap winch?

Has anyone had any luck with the small winches from harbor freight or tractor supply? I just need one to pull down the rear suspension.

The HF winches used to look exactly like a MM. Even had the same specs, remote, etc. I wouldnt doubt it if they arent/werent made by the same people. I think the MM and HF look a little different now.

Me and mubablazin both have the HF one on are rear setup as suck down winch's. They'll work you just have to replace the wirer cable as soon as you get it. And do a pulley style set up to in crease the pull rate. Find out when there on sale and use the discount coupons.

By the by... that's the lowest of the HF winches I'd spend money on, and even then don't expect it to do much. It'll work great in the suspension application though.

The "black box" type winches are junk. They overheat, shut off, and run outta power. The handle is included on them for a reason--you'll end up using it. The mechanism's aren't that bad, but the motor is grossly underpowered.

Now, they also have a 3k winch--that's camo. The neat thing about it is that it has a wireless key fob remote. On a suspension app, you'd only have to provide power and be done in a matter of minutes once you got it hooked up. About $20 more--but goes on sale often. I believe HF is having a sidewalk sale next weekend...

I agree 100% with that, had 2 of the black box types and was glad they had the handle lol They were gifts so i could not complain. I have had one of the MM style look alikes from HF for a long time and it does a great job.
