Clayton questions....

Never been but always wanted to. Whats the format there like? I see pics with trail signs but is it public land? Is there a controlled central entrance or do you just start wherever? Is it always open? Whats the dealio?

Format is 8 1/2 x 11 white copy sheet.

It is privately owned but respected and treated as public land.

The entrance is not brutally controlled. There is a central entrance to parking at the airstrip. The trail heads are near the airstrip.

It is always open. 365 24 7

The dealio is damn good. Gotta go to learn more for yourself.

TBASTM is talking Green Acres which is where all the big nastys are. There is also Freelings that is milder and I believe it is a little more limited on entrance and what not, but I could be wrong. With your rig you want to hit Green Acres most likely. Just pay at the gate head in. It's always better to have a group to wheel with. It can get hairy up there.

Thats kind of the info I am looking for. I guess someone is always there or there is a drop box or something to pay? I'm not planning on making any solo trips, just trying to get an idea of what to expect should I be able to make it out there.

There is a box at the gate. I think the name of the street the airstrip is on is called "flagpole". I didn't have much trouble with getting there until I rolled into clayton. It can get confusing once you get into town. Some local kid ended up helping us find the park.
