dana 44

Hey guys need advise and opinions. I have a lead on a front waggy dana 44 all internals new except for shafts. The axle will be ready to bolt up to the TJ with locker and 4.56 gears and heavy duty steering for 2250. I just bought the currie steering and can return it probably would get about 330 back to offset some of the cost. I would have to put adaptors on my rear wheels for the 6 lug pattern and buy new rims also.

I could also build this axle myself if I could get a line on a front waggy axle I just dont know how much I would save. This seems to be a good cost but I will miss out on all the fab work

I was first thinking just to upgrade the 30 with alloy usa shafts and the warn hub kit which is supposedly just as strong as the 44 minus the ring gear. This would be about 1400 or so to go this route.

What do you guys think? Is this really worth it? I really want hubs with a fuse.

Well lets see. Lets say I can get a waggy dana 44 for 200 bucks

junkyard axle with shafts $200
lunch box locker $210
ring and pinion $150
warn premium hubsnot sure cost so I will use 50 each
new rotors calipers ball joints estimate 200 bucks
steering to buy material and TRE's 250
bracket kit for rubicon express 400
carrier 50 bucks

so 1560 just in materials that is a savings though but I am sure I am probably missing a few things.

How would you build it? The price seemed decent to me.

Does seem like alot for a 44! I think you could build a 60 for just a little more than that. Course it would be alot wider than a stock 30 or 44.

On the other hand, if it's a completely rebuilt axle witheverything new expect the housing and would be a direct bolt in with no mods required then I guess it's not a bad price.

on your price list you forgot to add the Bracket kit to install the axle into the TJ. Unless your gonna cut the old ones off your axles.

Also, remember you will have to either go with a Ford 44 or get a D300 and flip it, cuz the waggy axles are Pass drop. TJ's are Driver drop. I'd go with the D300 add the 4:1 kit and the flip kit from DEO. $$$$ tho... but damn whata crawler...

Bracket kit is up there not sure if I will do a MORE kit or RE kit. The RE is 100 bucks more. The axle is from a 91 waggy, driver side drop.
