Devils Den Crack Down

An Officer of the HummerXClub recieved this email :

Sirs,

It has come to our attention that several off-road vehicles have
been frequenting the area near the "Devil's Den" and other drainage ways
and watercourses of the Leon Creek Watershed basin in Northwest San
Antonio, near Cathedral Rock Nature Park. We are aware that your
organization also sponsored an organized event for off-road vehicles
at this location on June 25, 2005. (We have the web link to the event
stored in our database).
We have been advised that several vehicles have also attempted to
gain access into Cathedral Rock Nature Park by entering into the park
area from access in the Devil's Den area (which is not city park land, but
provides an access way to the park property). In doing so, some of the
dedicated nature trails have received significant and costly damage.
We would like to inform you that use of any motor vehicles in this
manner is prohibited by the Municipal Code of the City Of San Antonio,
specifically section 19-501, pertaining to operation of motor vehicles
in drainage easements. For your reference, the exact language of the
ordinance is provided below:

Sec. 19-501. Operation of motor vehicle in city drainage easement
prohibited.
(a) It shall be unlawful to operate a motor vehicle upon or in any
watercourse, drainage way, natural channel, stream or other location
that is dedicated to the city as a drainage easement.
(b) The director of public works is authorized to erect and post signs
along drainage easements forewarning persons that the operation of
motor vehicles along same is prohibited.
(c) Each violation hereof shall be punishable by a fine of not less
than one dollar ($1.00) and not more than two hundred dollars
($200.00).
(Ord. No. 86136, § 1, 6-12-97)
Future violators can and will be prosecuted for this violation, and
should any damage to park property (walking trails, etc) occur, a
violator could also be prosecuted under the Criminal Mischief statute
of the Texas Penal Code, P.C. 28.03. Notice given 12-12-2005.

It sounds like it only applies to the "Nature Park" area. I was concerned that someone would drive into the park, now it happened. The Den only has 3-4 years left according to http://www.sanantonio.gov/creekways/map.asp. Below is a pic if you don't want to open the PDF file.

sounds like some members who are in the area should contact Sgt. Packard
and see if he will meet you out there to "survey" the areas under contention
so they can be marked in some way. thereby distinguishing accessible areas of the den from those public park areas our Govt. seeks to to protect "from" the public.

an easement map would also be advised to have, in order to to ease any discepancy and to provide points of reference.
