Drive Shaft Upgrade / Replacement

Hi. Quick question for you guys...

So after this weekend my drive shaft looks like a soda can... It was just the stock shaft. Was already kind of beat up... Yoke ears were pretty bent. Ideally I would like to replace with a double cardan shaft from high angle and shim the axle up...but like always I don't really have the money right now... especially because i'm trying to fund my motorcycle project.

So... what kind of prices can I expect from a local driveshaft shop for something just simple? Or should I not bother and just wait...I'm really leaning towards just waiting. Truck is still drivable but you know... it's like a hurricane in there. Going to call up baertrax tomorrow and get a quote.

Thanks

Is it a dedicated Rock Crawler?
If so, why not use square tubing.
Before my last drivetrain changes to by rig. I used drill stim pipe for my rear off road drive shaft. I have had the same front square drive shaft on my rig sense 2005. I did damage a yoke off the front when I lost a bearing and elongaged it. but other then the tube rather it be round or square the factoy stuff has held up fine.

I would just beef up what you have. Get some DOM or HREW that has the same or close id as the od of your existing drive shaft. Cut the existing shaft ends off leaving about 6 inches so you can slide it in the new pipe. Make sure the yokes are lined up and run a big fat bead over the existing bead and the new pipe.

I have done three garage drive shafts recently and found that if you take your time and think it out you can get them pretty true with simple tools.

Side note:

I would not do this for a daily driver, but in a crawler....all day long.

Thanks for the tips but forgot to mention that I drive this thing 10 miles to work and school everyday.

Update:
After talking to some local shops it seems like the going price is about $200 for a retube with some thicker tube. Sound reasonable?

Baertrax won't do anything, he'll sub it out. Check with Inland Truck Parts or Drivetrain of Mesquite.
