What about the park rangers?
Or are you talking about running wide open in 1st gear?

speed limit on Padre island ( little and Big shell ) are 15 mph, 25 mph once you pass the 4WD only sign. Park Rangers have radar guns. Like River Rat said.. fines are high.

go here for more info - http://www.nps.gov/pais/

I'm not planning to go right now. The last time I went we had VW sand rails. We went all the way to the land cut and back in about 8 hrs. On the way down the tide was up and we had to drive in the loose dry sand. Topping out 1st gear and bogging in 2nd gear. On the way back the tide was lower and we drove near the water a little faster. All on less than 10 gallons of fuel. No breakdowns.

if your heading to South padre island and i dont mean corpus christ you can expect to find more sand than you can shake a stick at. one you get past point 6 you can drop the hammer and go all the way to the East cut (ship channel) and there are some jeties out there and you can rock crawl there too. not to many park rangers out there cause they really are not able to make it cause of the fact the run a stock tire on there 4x4's.
once your out there you can play in the dunes and the water is much nicer out there.

hell when you do make it down this way a bunch of us can meet you out there i know a couple of the south texas guys on here are always up for heading out to the beach.

yea what DJ C said up above. lol let us know, I'll owe you some for the tranny favor.

EDIT: our beach is way nicer (commercially & visually) than Corpus or Galveston. Well I think Galveston's more like the Rio Grande now if I'm not mistaken.
