Good deal on Chevy axles?

Hello. Hope this is the right place for this. I usually lurk around, so I'm not sure.

I'm up in Kansas thanks to Uncle Sam, so I'm trying to find some axles up here for my Jeep. This guy has a 44 and 12-bolt out of a late 70s Chevy. He's asking 350$. He said they worked fine in his truck but decided to go with a new set with the gearing he wanted. The passenger knuckle isn't flat so I'll need to get a new one. I'm also not sure of the condition of them, but they appear to be in decent shape.

I really don't know much about parts like this, so was hoping you guys could help out.

I'm also a bit concerned with where the passenger spring pad is. I'll have to inboard it on my Jeep I'm sure, so in this case I may need to shorten the driver side shaft to make it work. Any thoughts on that? I've wanted to go to a link set up, but I'm not sure that's in the cards right now.

He also said he's missing "the part that holds the front pads on" so I'm guessing he means the calipers. He sent me a picture of the rest of the parts, hubs, rear drums, etc. So otherwise they appear complete.

Is 350$ a good deal? I've only shopped around for 1-ton parts, so not really sure. Thanks for the help!

Its a great deal for that guy! Heavily overpriced for us here.

Dont cut up the axle. Outboard your springs.

Thanks guys for the help. Glad I asked before I jumped. Some stuff up here seems to be crazy expensive.

I'm stationed at Fort Riley. Which is about an hour east of Topeka.

If he ditched them because they were not good enough for him, then why would you want them? They are probably wore out with lousy 3.08 gears.

You could probably find a whole junker truck for $350 to $500 (here locally anyways)

If it had flat tops on both sides, 4.10 gears, good hubs and brakes still attached, tight u-joints, and cleaned up and painted they might be worth $300 top dollar.

As is, I wouldn't even haggle with him. They are worth scrap weight.

Thanks for the advice guys. I guess I'm going to wait til I get back to Texas. Everything seems to be priced like this up here. At least on CL. Can't find any decent groups or clubs anywhere.

Well I found another set, this time with flat top passenger knuckle and 100% complete. I traded my .22 that I don't really shoot any more for them. Can't beat that.

You know that .22 is worth like a million dollars right?

The gun isn't worth anything if you can't find the bullets for it.

Which is why I like my 44 magnums. Reloads.

Got my axles today. No fun surprises like a locker or anything. They have 3.31 gears, not the advertised 3.07s - not like that helps me any...

I was wondering why it'd have automatic hubs. This is a flat top knuckle 44, so I would think it would have selectables. No biggie, as I was planning to upgrade anyway.

This should be fun, never done an axle before.
